United Nations Assembly at Polk High School

The Polk High School dramatics group hosts a United Nations Convocation next Tuesday October 21 at 3 00 in the assembly room. A United Nations flag will be presented to the school, crafted by the Home Economics department under Miss Mabel Lucado’s supervision.

Warren Heads County Education Group in Polk County

The Polk County Education Association met in Osceola with Supt Walker presiding. H E Warren of Polk was elected to lead the group and chosen as delegate to the Nebraska State Teachers Association Delegate Assembly in Lincoln December 4 and 5, with Dean Dellinger as alternate. Other officers named include Mrs Dora Lockard, John Q Adams, and Miss Dorothy Dahlin. The meeting reviewed constitutional amendments to appear on the ballot and adjourned to a social hour and lunch. The next gathering will be in Shelby on November 24.

Auxiliary Notes From The Legion Aux Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall on Monday October 13 with Lauretta Neuhaus presiding. Officers planned selling Saving Stamps at school, prepared program books, and discussed gifts for service members including Christmas boxes and comforters.

Obituary of Arthur William Gustafson from Polk Nebraska

Arthur William Gustafson born June 3 1883 in Peoria Illinois moved to Polk County Nebraska as a child. He worked as a garage operator and mechanic later living on an acreage near Polk. He married Esther Gabrielson in 1918 and had two sons John and Paul. He died October 7 at age 69 4 4 with services at Polk Methodist Church and burial in Swede Plain Cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Dwayne Hahn of Hordville send birthday greetings after a game via a birthday cake. In Alma on October 5 a dinner honors the 60th wedding anniversary of Eldon Schroder and his wife. Lincoln visitors include Vergil Bush and others. Mrs Nielsen celebrated her 26th anniversary at Hordville Church. Melvin Barsett visited Oscar Anderson home. Melvin previously toured Sweden with Harold Anderson. Bennie Baker reports the death of his father Dr Ben J Baker of Lincoln.

School Blanket Tax Refund Planned for Polk County

Polk County Treasurer Carleton Anderson reports $74 825 will be refunded by May 3 1952 to rural taxpayers who paid the four mill blanket school tax. City district residents are ineligible. A total of 5 219 receipts issued between Nov 1 1951 and June 1952 must be processed to return exact penny amounts by law.

Ruben Meline Killed In Plane Crash

Defense Department notified Mr and Mrs Hans Meline that their son Ruben a Navy pilot was killed in a Newfoundland crash Monday. Five others died six survived. Survived by wife Marjonna and five year old daughter Linda and by parents brothers and sisters. Services will be in Minneapolis where wife and daughter reside pending Defense Department notice.
