Polk Beats Shelton 12-7 Wednesday Night

Polk defeated Shelton 12 to 7 to win their fifth game of the season. Kenny Werner Morris Fisher Bob Renquist and Gaylen Holmes led Polk on offense and defense in a strong first half and in fending off Shelton's late threat. A full account will run next week.

Pheasant Season Opens Across Nebraska in 26th Hunt

Thousands of Nebraska sportsmen joined the 26th annual pheasant season opening last Friday. The show tables indicate birds are plentiful and cover is heavy. zone rules set harvest limits and dates withZone 2 closing Oct 26 and Zone 1 running to Nov 23. Hunters must retain sex identification by keeping either the head or feet of each pheasant.

Legion event highlights in Osceola meeting

Everett Green served as master of ceremonies and Bob Steenbeck led the business session. M. M. Mills Jr. spoke on veterans benefits, W. H. Norton was elected county adjutant succeeding Arnold Neuhaus, and the Legion Auxiliary provided a baked ham banquet.

Silver wedding anniversary observed at Hanquist home

In observance of their silver wedding anniversary Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hanquist held a reception at their Hordville home on Sunday October 19 with about 140 relatives and friends. Guests from Omaha Lincoln Grand Island and other towns attended. A buffet supper followed for 23 relatives and friends.

Recent Bride Honored At Shower

A three hostess miscellaneous shower for Mrs. Leland Bills a recent bride was held Monday evening October 20 at the home of Mrs. Martin Hoffman with Mrs. Lowell Bills and Mrs. Ester Lackey assisting. Twenty one guests enjoyed games contests and a blue and white theme. The honoree received many useful items and refreshments included blue ship favors sandwiches cake and ice cream.

A Sundberg family event at the Oscar Sundberg home in Sheridan Oregon included Mr. and Mrs. Emma Johnson Valparioso and numerous Sundberg relatives with extended guests the Strombergs and Rolland Stromberg attending afternoon and evening meals.

Corn Harvest Nearing Completion Across Community

Harvest wrapped up this week with most corn gathered and yields ranging from 40 to 60 bushels on dry land farms. Irrigated crops remain last to harvest as drought persists, with quality high though ears are dry and field conditions dirty making picking difficult.

Polk dominates Silver Creek after a tight first quarter. Gaylen Holmes scores two TDs and passes for three more, adding 140 rushing yards on nine carries. Don Nyberg Rob Renquist Kenny Werner also score as Polk pulls away to post 45 points while Silver Creek only tallies a single TD by McCormick.
