The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall with 26 members and 3 visitors. Plans included a card party on November 10 a Halloween party for young children and Christmas boxes for servicemen to be packed November 2. Mrs Velma Stephens will present a review of Communist Trail in America inviting guests. County officers with president Lauretta Neuhaus will meet in Polk October 28 for a luncheon. Helen Isaacson and Ella Dahlin received remembrance tokens. Elaine Stromberg spoke on Child Welfare. The Polk County Teachers Association held its first meeting in Stroms on October 7 with two musical numbers. Officers elected for the coming year include Miss Nina Burke as President and John Adams re-elected Treasurer. The next meeting is scheduled for November 23, 1953 at 7 30 P M in Stroms.

Don Forss Recalls Japan Typhoon Flood Experience
In a letter to his parents Mr and Mrs Adolf Forss Don Forss recounts the September 25 typhoon and flood in Japan. He notes the storm from 1:30 pm to 9:00 pm damaged a shop where he works while his barracks on higher ground escaped. He calls it the worst flood in 51 years and mentions homes lost and some deaths. Nellie Peterson 90 Dies After Short Illness
Nellie Peterson a longtime resident of the area died Sunday at Stroms burg Hospital after a brief illness. She leaves two daughters Mrs Charles W Jones of O Neill and Mrs Esther Morgan of Polk four sons Leonard of Marquette Dr Arthur of Greeley Colorado and Enoch and Ben of Polk Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Post Baptist Church Rev Elwood Anderson and Rev Harry Ratzlaff officiating Interment in Baptist Cemetery tributes from relatives in Minnesota and local visitors noted in the report.

Seven From Polk Tour Co op to Kansas City Refinery Visit
Sixteen members of local co ops chartered a bus for a four day tour to Coffeyville Kansas and Kansas City Missouri. They visited the CCA refinery in Coffeyville and toured fertilizer plant construction in Lawrence, Kansas before continuing discussions in Kansas City. The group met with Howard A. Cowden and heard about coop developments and international coop collaboration. A banquet featured John Miller speaking on fertilizer needs and a World Series TV viewing preceded a trip to the Blues Baseball Stadium.
