Polk Cubs defeat Fairmont 33 to 6 in Friday night football, their first win over Fairmont in two years. Randy Branting scores four touchdowns and Dave Shenk adds two as Branting nets 48 yard run and 21 47 yard pass plays. Polk outgains Fairmont 312 to 217 with 10 first downs to 5.
Mrs Elvis McNaught of Galesburg Kansas dies at age ninety seven years and ten months. Her son Neil McNaught of Polk and daughters Dora Schultz of Aston Oklahoma and Vivian Libby of Tulsa Oklahoma survive with several grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Neil McNaught travel Sunday to attend the funeral.
Mrs Lloyd Morris was admitted to Lincoln General hospital on Monday afternoon.
The Polk Cubs beat Silver Creek and later Fullerton in two conference matchups to stretch their season-long run to six. Key contributors include Denise Sterns Abbi Harrington Ly nette Flodman and Darla Sterns with strong serving and setting. Varsity record stands 6 2 as tournament approaches.

The Nebraska State Health Department and Polk County Medical Association hold a mass swine influenza immunization on Thursday October 28 1976. Clinic hours run 5 6 p m at the Polk grade school gym with jet injector vaccination and no charge. Consent forms available October 20 at Polk Post Office Citizens State Bank Mac Donalds IGA. Additional clinics in Shelby Osceola and Stromsburg on the same day.
William E. Bill Anderson of Omaha formerly Polk died Thursday after weeks in hospital. He was 89 and survived by five daughters Marguerite Lawhead Wichita Irene Worth Lois Miller Gladys Stisko Phyllis Johnson all of Omaha. three sisters Mrs Richard Johnson Anna Guthrie Polk and Mrs Lloyd Krader Fortuna California. several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was survived by his wife and one son.
Mary Lou Sandell of Lincoln spent Saturday with her parents Mr and Mrs Elwood Sandell. Grace Johnson and her son Dale visited in the Joe Ehn home. Wilbur Jones of Central City called on Edna Sundberg. Walter Nelson and Orlie Miller hosted visits from Mr and Mrs. Albert Whitefoot Edward Hilmer of Boelus and Kenneth Wilshusen. Leroy Nelson dropped by Murray Nelson’s Friday. Pearl Land of Concord California and her daughter Mrs Frank Harlowe of Central City visited Leonard Orendorff Tuesday. Land is an aunt of Orendorff. Wilfred Stephens helped celebrate Jill Nielsen’s first birthday in York. Harold Lenz visited the Wilfred Stephens home. Brad Sundberg and Sheri joined visits with Charles Shenk and Angie, Bob Carlgren of Grand Island, Burdette Flodman of Stromsburg, and other Central City residents for Sunday supper at Paul Boover’s.

The Swede Plain MYF met October 3 at the church. Kathy Dittmer was elected president, Kim Clymer vice president, Roger Widga secretary, Loren Lind treasurer, and Rhonda Widga the news reporter. Plans were made for a scavenger hunt in October. Rev. Holbrook led Bible Study. Lunch was served by Marie Clymer and Janice Widga.
Mrs Edna Sundberg was a Sunday dinner guest of Mr and Mrs Calmar Johnson. Monday morning guests of Mrs Margaret Lott were Mr and Mrs Mac McDaniel of Corvena California.
