Gardeners helpring half ton fertilizer at circus ring

About 100 gardening enthusiasts turned up at Ringling Bros circus at the International Amphitheater to shovel a half ton of mineral iron organic fertilizer left by performing animals. Circus management offered it free daily 10 am to noon, saving an estimated $6,000 in hauling costs.

State Bicentennial Convention Planned in Kearney

The state bicentennial convention will be held at the Ramada Inn in Kearney on November 12. The committee chairmen have invitations and will invite members and families. Polk Girls Drop Striking Loss in Stromsburg Tourney

Polk volleyball saw its six game win streak end as Lakeview of Columbus defeated Polk 15 5 and 15 11 in the Stromsburg Invitational. Lynette Flodman and Darla Sterns each had four serving points, with Lesley Jones leading Polk in spikes and strong setters aiding rallies. Lakeview later beat Stromsburg and Shelby to win the tournament, while Polk prepares for Goldenrod Conference action at Cedar Rapids with a first game on October 19 and a potential rematch on October 21.

William Bedient 76 obituary with services in Arborville

William Bedient, 76, of Lincoln died Monday at Memorial Hospital in Aurora after months of failing health. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 00 p.m. at Arborville Congregational Church with Rev John Mc Curdy officiating. Burial follows in Arborville Cemetery. Born September 15 1900 in Amboy Illinois to Fred and Katie Bedient he later lived in Arborville Polk and York before moving to Wichita Kansas in 1943 to work as an inspector at Cessna Aircraft. He retired in 1964 to Sun City Alabama and returned to Nebraska later. He married Enid Fisck January 10 1924 in Grand Island. Survived by wife Enid of Lincoln two sons Glen Boise Idaho LeMoyne Eugene Oregon one daughter Audrey Getty Logan Kansas one brother Harold York and six grandchildren. Preceded by parents a sister Eva Stark and a brother Herbert.

The Swede Plain United Methodist Women met in the church parlors on Wednesday afternoon October 13. Mrs Robert Clymer opened with prayer and led the business session. Hospital notes from Lincoln and York journals

Kathleen Junge underwent major surgery at St Elizabeth hospital Lincoln on Thursday. She is the daughter of Mrs Wilda Holmes Polk and Mr Arnon Dover. Dover is a patient in York hospital critically ill from a fall at a hotel. Mrs Walter Stohl returned home Friday from a week at Lincoln General Hospital Lincoln.
