Frank Davis announces that the Davis Rexall Store in Polk will participate in the Rexall Nationwide One Cent Sale from October 19 to 23. Bargains throughout the store feature regular items at regular price plus an extra one cent. Exceptional bargains may be had at the Davis Pharmacy during the sale. Remember the date.
In Polk a forgetful professor Rev. C W Long entered Kroger and tried to call Central. After dialing unsuccessfully he rang again and grew frustrated. Ruth Kroger watched amused as he realized he was turning a pencil sharpener, not the telephone.
Mrs Martha Westfall appoints Lee Bayer as assistant postal clerk starting October 1 in the local post office. He succeeds Duane Douglas who had served there since midsummer.
Polk High School edged Clarks 7 to 6 on Friday night despite missing lineman Gaylen Holmes. Frank Ostrander scored Polk’s touchdown in the first quarter and Waldon McNaught added the extra point as Polk led 7-0 at halftime. Dexter scored Clarks’ lone TD in the third period but the try failed, keeping the game 7-6. Polk’s stats show 118 rushing yards and 35 passing yards. The writer believes the close win will prepare Polk for Osceola at home Friday night.
Polk County C R C P sponsors a village meeting on October 16 at 8 p m in the Stromsburg Grade School to promote the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Elton L. Berck outlines a county wide drive with a film Address Unknown and invites leaders from church, farm and civic groups. The note also covers local church events, visits, and a Billy Graham rally trip for Polk residents.

Martin Jones formerly employed at Johnson's Chevrolet has accepted a post with the Railway Commission of Nebraska. He began the new duties at the first of the month and will inspect grain records of state warehouses and elevators.
Polk High School plans a student council with caucuses last week across grades. Seniors James Klingsporn Dennis Light and John Holmes lead, Juniors Jeanelle Kroger Frank Ostrander, Sophomores Galen Holmes Leon Stunkel, Freshmen tie Janice Wilshusen Kenneth Bowers. Band Day in Lincoln October 21. Report cards arrive Thursday after first six weeks.
The Polk Woman's Club met at Mrs. Henry Horstman s home with hostesses Mrs. Rolland Dahlin and Mrs. O F Alfred. Program committee members Mrs. Albert Sundberg and Mrs. Parker Aker presented reports on The History of Our Town. Thirty four members and one visitor attended.
Neighborhood guests frequent Central City and surrounding areas with extended visits from Ful lerton Stromsburg Aurora and Lincoln. Families including McNeeley Swanson Glasser Adelson Meerkatz Xisler and others were hosted at homes in Central City Swede Home and nearby towns during the weekend and past week with birthday reminders and hospital follow ups noted.
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Jones are appointed by the Farmers' Produce Board to operate the business effective October 1, replacing Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson.
Arborville Twentieth Century Club met to begin the year with a program on A Teacher's Experiences in Cuba and Hawaii led by Mrs. Mervin Shenk. Seven members and a visitor attended, and delegates to the York County Convention of Women's Clubs were chosen for Bradshaw on October 17.

Cheryl Faye Bush daughter of Virgil and Mrs Bush was brought home Saturday from Lincoln Hospital feeling good. Sunday visitors in the Bush home included Morris Lindquist and family Central City Willard Bush and son Mrs Hattie Lindquist Martin Hoffman Sr. over for Sunday evening. Wesley Lindshi of Omaha stayed overnight with Eldon Johnson Saturday.
