Polk Defeats Genoa 13 to 0 Friday Gridiron Victory

Polk earned a decisive 13 to 0 win over Genoa in rough play, with Gaylen Holmes and Frank Ostrandner scoring and Waldon McNaught adding the only extra point. Polk dominated in first downs and yardage and seeks a strong matchup against Shelton on September 29.

Polk High School Stomps Shelton 54-0 in Victory Run

Polk High School extended its winning streak by defeating Shelton 54 to 0. Walden McNaughts accurate passing and Gaylen Holmes three touchdowns led Polk, with strong line blocking and dominant yardage. Norris Anderson of the Lincoln Journal rates Polk fifth in Class C for the week.

Polk School News Field notes and community updates

The Polk school reports progress in the mechanical drawing class with new tools and a weekly film program starting October 6 featuring The Port of New York. Fifth and sixth graders share poems, the Home Making Class finishes canning and returns equipment loaned by local mothers, and the Freshman English class holds a spelling spell down with 28 freshmen. Nearby visits and social events involve the Widga, Anderson, and Kisler families, plus church activities and local gatherings.

Pleasant Home 4H meeting reports fair success

Pleasant Home 4H Farmers met at Verland and Donald Widga with 9 members and 5 adults. They reported a fine time at the Fair, naming 3 blue ribbon dairy calf winners and 4 red ribbon calves. Mrs Widga hosted lunch. Next meeting Oct 10 at Jimmy Adelson’s home.

Methodist Group Attends Central District Rally

Nine members of the Methodist Church Young Adult group attended the Central District Rally at Central City Sunday evening with representation from three counties. Mrs. Everett Green, president, gave Polk group report. A covered dish supper preceded a program led by guest speaker Mrs. L Engle of Lincoln. Polk attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Everett Green and others.

Alton Wilhelms Is New Progress Owner

The Polk Progress changed hands weeks ago but the sale was kept quiet due to deferment letters from Uncle Sam. Alton Wilhelms, a World War I veteran, received notice today that his deferment was granted, and the full transaction details will be published next week with more space.

Colorado Springs Guests Dine With Paul Strand Family

Mr and Mrs H W Batty of Colorado Springs have been guests in the Paul Strand home the past week. Saturday dinner guests included Dr and Mrs E H Nordstrom of Mason City Iowa Mrs Esther Berggren of Omaha and Mr and Mrs H W Batty. The Strand family attended a reunion in the Lewis Berggren home last Sunday and Mrs Earl Johnson and Jeannie visited Mrs Ollie Johnson on Wednesday.

Singfest at Baptist Church and Community Notes

Polk youth enjoyed a Singfest at the Baptist Church directed by Rev. Elwood Anderson with multiple musical offerings. Other items include notes on local visits, pledges, birthday honors, visitors from Hastings and Greeley, and community dinners and gatherings across Polk and nearby towns.

Youth Fellowship Organized at Swede Plain Church

Young people of the Swede Plain Methodist Church organized a Methodist Youth Fellowship at James Adelson's home. Officers elected include Marilyn Lind as president and Arlene Van Ostrand as vice president. A senior group met later with James Sundberg as leader and new officers chosen for the year. They plan a hayrack ride and wiener roast on October 16.

Social rounds fill weekend with visits across Osceola and surrounding towns. Families gather for meals and celebrations while others attend a Gideon Convention in Grand Island. Notables include Gleims, Lindholms, Brunners, Dasher, Warnicks, Sundbergs, and Seymours among neighbors and relatives.

Falk Country Woman's Club Meet Yields Nebraska History Talk

The first meeting of the Falk Country Woman's Club was held Thursday afternoon at Mrs. Clarence Meerkatz home. Mrs. Robert Willits and Mrs. Orlie Miller presented a program on The History of Nebraska. Refreshments for twenty members and four visitors were served by the hostess with help from Mrs. Willard Adelson and Mrs. Leslie Adelson.

District Seminar Attended by York Ladies at Methodist Church

Polk ladies who attended a District Seminar at the York Methodist church Tuesday were Mesdames Paul Strand Will Kroger Hennig Seymour Oscar Strand Mervin Samuels and C J McCoy. Twenty five societies were represented at this meeting and a returned missionary Miss Hansing gave a talk on Chinas Future. The noon luncheon was served by the York M E ladies.
