The Rev E E Pengelly will return to a former charge to preach the home coming sermon. Sunday School will be at 11 with no morning service this week. Worship with another church is encouraged as the community continues its good work. A week from Sunday reopening.
The notice lists multiple local churches with their Sunday schedules. German services at 9:30 a.m. and English at 10:30 a.m. Walther League Rally planned in Marysville. Methodist Church promotes Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Morning Service at 11 a.m. with an evening service at 7:30 p.m. A special Sunday morning service and choir rehearsal are noted. Free Methodist Church shares service times and a Bible verse invitation. Visitors welcomed at all churches.
Pastor Paul Carlson invites all to Sunday School at 10:00 and Morning Worship at 11:00. Evening services start at 7:30, with Midweek Prayer and Junior Endeavor on Wednesday at 7:30. A hearty welcome to all.

Mrs Laurence Sundberg of Hastings attends the Topeka branch convention of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the M FE churches in Wichita. Sundberg, president of the Hastings branch, travels with Mrs Sala to join the weeklong gathering.
Miss Frances Staniec daughter of Mr and Mrs Bartley Staniec and Loren Miller son of Mr and Mrs Frank Miller were united in marriage at Krakow church Fr Solo Wiski officiating. A wedding dance followed at Kula hall Silver Creek with many friends in attendance. The couple will reside with his parents in Polls County.
Mrs. Hijalmar Shostrom and her daughter spent Monday with Mrs. Ira Shostrom at Stromsburg, sharing time and hospitality in the Nebraska town.
Polk County Women’s Club Convention set for Osceola Methodist Church on Tuesday October 11 with a theme Harmonious Homes and Understanding Parents. Officers listed include Ester Lackey president Arthur Morrill vice president and I D Huston treasurer with program notes detailing singing, devotions, reports, speeches and elections.
Captain R F Waller of the Nebraska State Highway Patrol spoke at Polk High School during convocation about highway safety. He outlined patrol practices and urged students with driving permits to use the shortest routes to and from school and park cars on campus. He called the patrol car a first aid station on wheels ready to render aid on the highways.
Polk county farmers participate in Nebraska Pasture-Forage-Livestock program with 26 cooperators. A statewide clinic and banquet set for November 22 in Omaha, and a southwestern regional gathering in Holdrege on November 3. County winners will be chosen by a state representative and Osceola Community Club committee.
Rev EB Pengelly and family and Polk High faculty were guests at a Friday evening reception in the Methodist Church basement. Over one hundred attended. Albert Sundberg presided as toastmaster with welcomes, a response, musical selections, and a luncheon to follow.
Victor E. Wilson a former Polk county resident and now a California lawyer writes Come to Work a plan for an economy of plenty under the present order. He describes Polk and Hardville towns and recalls starting Polk's first bank and serving as a bank official in Stromeburg years ago. His brother Nathan Wilson lives there.
The Polk Commercial Club resumes monthly meetings next Monday evening after a summer break. A committee will seek business men for dinner tickets to be served around 7 00 with entertainment and business session at 8 00. Attendance invited even without dinner. no guest speaker planned yet. Dr C R Peterson and Lloyd Kroger promise special entertainment.
About thirty five members of the Walther League of the Immanuel Lutheran Church gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Martin Baack on Sunday evening. Rev Carl Juergensen led the mission study topic. The evening featured games contests and a lunch prepared by the hostesses.
Polk friends report the marriage of former Polk girl Nina Tenney to Frank Reuter of Wauneta. The ceremony was held at the M. E. parsonage in Papillion. The bride, Polk High School ’27 graduate, has worked at Berry pharmacy Wauneta. They will live on a Wauneta-area farm after a wedding trip.
The Polk Women's Club met on Tuesday afternoon October 4 at Mrs. Wallace Sandell's home with sixteen members and three visitors. Mrs. Arnold Isaacson and Mrs. C. F. Alfred led a lesson on Czechoslovakia followed by a Czechoslovakian lunch prepared by hostesses Mrs. Wallace Sandel and Mrs. Oscar Sundberg.
The Coffee Shop on the highway formerly run by Mr and Mrs H B Johnson has been sold to Cramer Brothers of Polk and will be managed by Cliff Cramer. The eatery will operate in conjunction with the Cramer Oil Company filling station. The former owners have not announced definite plans, but are expected to stay in the area for now.
Reverend and Mrs. E. E. Pengelly and family and Mrs. C. J. McCoy were Sunday dinner guests in Clyde Rice's Clyde home.
The first general meeting of the Women's Club featured a Rural Electrification program led by Mrs. D A Benson. Crawford Campbell played piano solos and a duet, and the group planned to send no delegate to the state convention in Kearney October 5 6 7.
A Farm Bureau and Extension Service tour drew 135 farmers who attended sorghum and hybrid corn test plots in the county. Attendees urged greater sorghum use and noted grain sorghums like kales and miles deserve attention next year. A yield summary will be posted at the Agricultural Agent's office in about a month to guide farmers for next season.
Large delegations from Baptist congregations in Central City Stromsburg Hardville and Polk attended the Better Church Forum at the local Baptist church on Tuesday evening October 4 Dinner was served at 6 30 by the Ladies Mission Circle for about one hundred officers and leaders A vocal duet Elaine and JoAnne Lindburg with Mrs Rodney Allison at the piano opened the program Rev B H Ward Des Moines led the forum on Better Churches An inspirational talk followed at 8 00 by Laura Johnson a Burma missionary and former Polk School teacher.
Forty members and friends of the WWG gathered for a 6:30 dinner at the Baptist Church on Monday October 3 in a yellow and white decorated room. Miss Fern Schweitzer and Miss Blanche Peterson led the Love and Friendship program with talks by Dorothy Pearson LaVerne Fredrickson and Mrs H Horstman. Marjorie Nelson sang My Task as the solo. Hostesses included Mrs Ellen Larson Mrs Bailey Mrs H Horstman Gertrude Nelson Florence Anderson and Marjorie Nelson.
The Osceola Realty Auction Co reports two farm sales in the past week. Wm W Honnell bought the Frank Olson eighty acres near Osceola for 60 dollars an acre. Otto E Olson of Shelby purchased the Matthes farm on the Osceola Shelby highway for 5250 dollars per acre.
Mr and Mrs Wm Stankel visited relatives at St LaBora Sunday.
The Country Woman's Club met at Mrs Leona Person's home on Thursday afternoon September 22 for the first meeting of the new club year. Mrs Lillie Kingsley assisted hostess with thirteen members present and six visitors, two joining for the year. Crocheting pot holders followed the business session and a lunch was served.
Farmers Union Store and Branting's hardware were entered Sunday evening through rear windows. Cash taken from registers totaled fourteen dollars at Farmers Union and five dollars at Brantings. Large register damage noted at Brantings. Local suspects suspected.
Polk county farmer George Olson finishes a 90 acre broomcorn harvest with 20 workers aiding breaking drying and haling. He plans broom manufacture once dry and has 15 years in the business. Elmer Fusby grows 10 acres this year.
A petition was filed with the county clerk last week to place Phil B Campbell of Osceola on the ballot for county attorney at the November general election. Campbell has accepted the petition.
Community members from Aurora, York, and surrounding towns visited relatives and friends over the weekend. It notes numerous dinners, picnics, and weekend stays in the homes of the Paschke, Graves, Shockey, Otte, Merchant, and Cramer families, with several trips to York events and a junior fair prize for Elizabeth Smith and Thais Balle Lackey.

Goldenrod Conference standings show Silver Creek Shelby and Osceola tied atop the table after opening matches. Silver Creek defeated Clarks 6-0 while Shelby beat Stromsburg 6-0 and Osceola beat Clarks. Clarks also beat Polk as the early results unfold. Outside league play Ulysses beat Osceola and Stromsburg, and Silver Creek beat Sacred Heart of Greeley.
