Andersons Start Ethiopian Assignment After New Baby Arrival

Edick Anderson Jr and his wife visit with Rev and Mrs Edick Anderson before moving to Addis Ababa to join the American embassy. They previously lived in Düsseldorf and New York and welcomed daughter Heather Lynn on September 19 at Strinesburg hospital.

Free Pancake Feed Planned by Polk County Farmers

Edick Anderson Jr. will speak on Germany Today at Polk Mission Camp Grounds. There will be abundant pancakes and coffee, with entertainment and serving beginning at 5 am. Eleven Polk County farmer groups sponsor the free event with directors in aprons. The Polk Bible Camp Grounds sit by the Blue River, 4.5 miles east and 2 miles south of Polk.

Agricultural Improvement Car Visits Polk County Osceola

The Agricultural Improvement Car from Union Pacific in cooperation with the University of Nebraska Extension Service will stop in Osceola on Tuesday October 13. Residents may attend educational sessions on Planning the Future Daily Herd Timely Tips on Swine Management and Difference Between Living and Existing. Films on Wog Sense and Blades of Green will be shown and experts will be available for individual advice.

Roy Ellsworth of York a longtime Donald Company grocery salesman was found dead in his car parked along the square in Seward last Friday night. He was believed to have attended the York Seward football game earlier and was known to many in the community for 30 to 35 years of travel.

Cubs Fall To Shelton In Tight Polka Gridiron Match

The Polk Cubs, using a new lineup led by Werner at fullback and Cramer at end, outgained Shelton with 18 first downs and 300 plus yards but lost 19 to 13. Jerry Brady starred for Shelton, scoring on three carries and a 64 yard run as Polk fumbled deep in Shelton territory costing them a chance to win.

Polk County Driver Licenses Available In Polk

County Treasurer Carleton Anderson announces a one day service in Polk on Saturday October 3 to issue driver licenses locally. So far this year 2700 licenses issued in Polk, about 4500 countywide. Polk County earns 10 cents per license for the general fund while the rest goes to the State for patrol salaries cars and administration. After October 1 all licenses become overdue.

Two More Polk School Buses Arrive

Marvin Fredrickson and Gilbert Springer left for Mitchell Indiana last Friday night to pick up two new school buses for School District No. 72. They drove the buses back, arriving in Polk on Monday, giving Polk four new buses purchased this summer.

Polk Band to Compete in Harvest of Harmony Show

Seventeen bands will appear in the Grand Island Harvest of Harmony on Saturday October 10 with Polk and Fairmont in class D. About 1000 bandsmen are expected from this group. Class A includes Columbus and Curtis while Class B features Aurora Burwell Central City Ravenna and St Paul. Class C lists Gibbon Kenesaw Litchfield Scotia Shelton St Mary's Stromsburg and Wood River. Mr and Mrs Cleo Cramer visited Mr and Mrs Don Quick of Hordville on Sunday.

Corn Picking Advances With Dry Warm Weather

Farmers report corn reaching harvest stage sooner than expected due to hot dry conditions. Many have begun picking last week, with full activity expected by October 15, though irrigated fields lag and some yields may fall short of five bushels per acre.

Reception For Teachers Held Tuesday Evening

The annual reception for the Polk Schools teachers and Methodist Church members was held Tuesday evening in church parlors. Everett Green served as Master of Ceremonies and introduced faculty members while Mrs. Sundberg and others presented gifts to departing members. About 120 guests attended the event.

Rally Day Exercises Mark Baptist Sunday School Observance

The past two Sundays, Men's Day and Women's Day, were observed at the Baptist Sunday School to boost interest and attendance. The climax will occur at the Rally Day exercises on Sunday followed by a basket dinner after the morning service. Mrs Hartwig Flodman and sister Mrs Delbert Query of Benedict returned Monday from a California trip with Mrs Query's daughter who departed for Hawaii to join her husband.

County Hospital Proposal Approved by Polk County Voters

Unofficial results show Polk County voters approving a county hospital plan proposed by Dr Jeffery. Osceola and Shelby precincts favored the proposal by large margins, while Stromsburg and Polk shifted against it. Over 100 mail votes were cast but did not affect the outcome.

28th Annual Polk County Federated Women’s Club Convention

The 28th annual convention of Federated Women’s clubs of Polk County met in Community Hall on Wednesday afternoon. County president Mrs Cleo Cramer opened the session with welcomes, district officers spoke, group singing followed, and the program highlighted Our American Home Religion and Youth. New officers were installed with Mrs Merle Stromberg of the Polk club becoming county president for the coming year. Lunch was served by hostesses Ruth Aker Kenneth Stewart and Alvina Stohl.

Sowers Club Of Lincoln To Visit Polk October 14

The Sowers Club, a goodwill group from Lincoln representing the Chamber of Commerce, will visit Polk on Wednesday October 14 at 2 25 p m. They will stay about 15 minutes before continuing to Stromaburg. The party travels in two large buses bearing favors and entertainment for the towns.
