Fire crews quell blaze near power pole at Ralph Peterson’s Garage
About one o clock Monday noon the Fire Department fought a fire climbing a power line pole at Ralph Peterson’s Garage corner. No damage reported but the outage risk was noted if the flame had risen higher. The pole ignited from nearby brass burning in a lot opposite the garage. Firemen joked upon arrival about the scene.

Four Youths Hospitalized After Osceola Area Crash
An accident eight miles west and one mile north of Osceola near 10:30 p m last Saturday sent four young people to hospitals. Marvin Kearney drove a 1947 Chevrolet coach that wrecked after failing to stop at a dead end. Denny and Harold Nelson Jr and Miss Mustard of Clarks were injured. Miss Mustard was airlifted to Omaha Methodist Hospital in critical condition with a severe head injury.

Kenneth Bedient, organist at Arborville Congregational Church and Polk County rural school teacher, was elected treasurer of Nebraska United Christian Youth Conference at the Lincoln meeting Friday of last week. More than two hundred people attended the Polk High School Athletic Banquet in the auditorium. Elwood Anderson giving the invocation and Doane College quartet providing music. James Klingsporn earned king of football while Arlene Van Ostrand was queen. letters were presented by Coach Arthur Philips. Traveling salesman loses teeth on highway prank
A Polk community tale recalls a salesman who spat from a car on Highway 30 losing his teeth. As he hurried to recover them, three following cars ran over the teeth, scattering them across the road and leaving a messy result for supper.

Neighbors Harvest Corn for Injured Friend in Nebraska
Clarence Erickson, a 45 year old bachelor near Hordville, broke a leg and spent six weeks in Grand Island Hospital. Neighbors organized a three hour harvest of his 65 acre corn field with 70 workers using 18 cornpickers and three elevators to gather 2750 bushels. Names of helpers included Andy Person and multiple Blases, Stranberg, Jones, Mudge, Bush, Anderson, Hoffman, Quick. Elevators supplied by Arlo Stevens, Roy Christianson, and Chas Biber.
