Polk Bouquets Honor Polk County Pioneers at Thanksgiving

This week’s Bouquet pays tribute to Polk County pioneers who settled here in sod houses and dugouts. It highlights Grant Willits, the Adelson and Stevens families, the Carlson and Meline homesteads, and other long established residents who arrived in 1872 1873. Their stories honor faith endurance and pioneer perseverance across four generations.

Smorgasbord and Bazaar at Polk High School Auditorium

Polk High School hosts a Smorgasbord and Bazaar on Thursday November 30 in the auditorium. Adults pay 1.25 dollars and children under 12 pay 0.50. The event is by the Swede Plain WSCS with serving from 5 30 to 9 00 PM.

Shostrom Hanquist Wedding at Swede Plain Church

Miss Marlene Shostrom and Miland Hanquist wed at Swede Plain Methodist Church on November 19 with a double ring ceremony led by Rev. Paul Walker. Attendants included Arlyn Hanquist, Dorothy Hanquist, and Karen Shostrom. The reception followed in the church parlors for about 120 guests. Immediately after, the couple plans to reside at 1616 South 14th Street in Lincoln.

Goldenrod Conference selects all star team. Klingsporn left out

Polk figures heavily with Jim Klingsporn not chosen for the all conference squad despite strong showing as a defensive guard and offensive center. The 1950 selections include Gaylen Holmes Mac Gleim and John Holmes of Polk while other notable players vie for honorable mention. Faithful Workers Meet at Mrs Emory Cramer Home

Faithful Workers Club met at Mrs Emory Cramer home Thursday afternoon November 16 with 16 members and three visitors present. Mrs Charles Dahlgren led a program on the club history since 1922. Members reviewed early club work and a district convention report was given. Aprons were donated for Christmas fundraising and dessert was served afterward by Mrs Forrest Berggren and Mrs Walter Hoffman.

Missionary Lars Jansson to Speak at Evangelical Free Church

Missionary Lars O. Jansson from Sweden will address a Wednesday service at 8 p.m. at Evangelical Free Church. He recently spent time in China and will begin work in Japan next year, sent by Svenska Helgelse Forbundet. Public welcome. free-will offering for missions. Polk Car Leads Omaha Autocade at Christian Endeavor

An autocade led by Rev. E. Earle Eaton of Polk and carrying notable Tri County and Omaha Endeavor figures paraded through downtown Omaha in honor of the Nebraska Christian Endeavor Convention. The procession, with crepe streamers and police escort, included Eaton’s daughter and Virginia Layher, with sessions held at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.

Polk High Musicians Shine At 1950 All State Clinic

Polk High School sent five representatives to the 1950 All-State Music Clinic in Scottsbluff among 870 competitors. The Polk contingent included Maribelle Lyle in band Annette Wilshusen Walden McNaught Dean Lindberg and Gaylen Holmes in chorus. The event featured six hours of rehearsal with famed conductors and a final concert to a record crowd.

Arborville Girl Plans December Nuptials

Miss Norma Jean Moors of the Congregational parsonage, cousin of Rev. E Earle Eaton, will wed Ward Schrack Jr of Denver on December 17. The ceremony will be at the First Methodist Church in Kearney. Both are students at Kearney College.

Choral Union Sacred Concerts Planned at Polk and York

The Lutheran Choral Union with about eighty voices from eleven Missouri Synod Circuit Three churches performs sacred music at Polk High School Auditorium Friday November 24 and York City Auditorium Sunday November 26 both at 8 p m. Selections include A Mighty Fortress Beautiful Savior and Silent Night plus Bach and Handel pieces. Rev. Paul E. Bussert directs. Admission is free with a free will offering.

Miscellaneous Shower For Recent Bride

A shower was given for Marlene Shostrom at Swede Plam Church parlors on Tuesday evening November 14. The bride elect sat beneath a decorated umbrella as yellow and blue decor set the theme. Games entertained guests before she opened gifts and a two course lunch was served by hostesses to 35 people.
