Polk County Youth Program Draws Large Osceola Crowd

A capacity Osceola Rivoli Theatre audience heard a Polk County 4-H and Safety Council program featuring piano solos, vocal numbers, readings, a club history, and award ceremonies. The event honored the Sunshine Club, awarded gold pins to seven girls and a leader, and recognized the Little Cornhuskers as second prize club.

McClure Couple Celebrate 40th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Joe McClure observed their 40th wedding anniversary on a Wednesday in November with friends and relatives gathering at the Methodist Church parlor The event featured a noon dinner a social hour readings songs by Ruth and Roberta Nelson and Geanell Sundberg and a Philco radio gift The out of town guests included Mr and Mrs Charles Smith Bradshaw George McClure and Mr and Mrs James McClure who also marked their anniversary.

Thanksgiving Program at District 74 Hamilton County

A Thanksgiving program will be held at District 74 in Hamilton County on Tuesday evening November 24. The school is located 31 2 west and 2 north of Polk. The program begins at 8:00 PM and lunch will be served afterward. Miss Harriet Ang is the teacher.

Will Wurtz visits Osceola Friday. Swede Home residents share weekend visits across Stromsburg Central City and Lincoln. Families hosted dinners and parties while clubs meet, including a Luther League gathering in the church parlors and a T C W Club meeting at Mrs Gust Peterson’s home.

Boy and Girl Contest Kicks Off With Votes Ahead

About ninety participants entered as the Boy and Girl contest opens. Entry deadline is November 25, after which voting proceeds on posted entries. Each store purchase through Christmas counts as a vote for the contestants with sixteen prizes to be awarded.

Barefoot Charlie Peterson Dies at 73 in Stromsburg

Funeral services were held in Stromsburg for Charles Peterson known as bare-foot Charlie. He died in Axtell after health decline and left a substantial Polk and York County estate to be divided among local churches schools and institutions. Interment was in Stromsburg cemetery.

Former York resident Michael McCarty dies at 88

Michael McCarty, age 88, died Sunday at 3 45 PM at his home 520 East Avenue York Nebraska after years of failing health. Born in King's County Ireland March 2 1848 he came to America as a child and lived in Boston and Illinois before moving to Pollk County Nebraska then to York in 1911. He and Anna McCarty celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 6 1928 and their 57th in 1936. Surviving are his widow five sons J G McCool J E York F P Lincoln Leo J Denver Albert York two daughters W M McDermitt Grand Island and Annette McCarty York 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral at St Joseph Catholic Church York Tuesday at 9 30 AM with Monsignors L L Mandeville and Thomas Cullen officiating. interment in St Josephs Cemetery southeast of York.

Mrs. Henry Sandell and others enjoyed a social afternoon at Mrs. Roy Benson’s home with sewing and visiting. Various families from York Stromsburg and Benedict were guests or visitors at homes and church gatherings over the weekend and week.

Everett Stouffer Rejoins Work After Visit to Family

Everett Stouffer of San Francisco California returns to work Tuesday after a visit with his parents Mr and Mrs R Stouffer. He plans to visit friends and relatives in Florence Colorado Albuquerque New Mexico and Los Angeles. Marlan Peterson son of Mr and Mrs C N Peterson of this city has joined the Jimmie Caton Orchestra of York as Master of Ceremonies after trying out last Wednesday. The orchestra will depart early next month for southern states for winter dance engagements.
