Polk County Extension Meeting Highlights and Elections
About 50 people attended the annual Polk County extension meeting with a talk by Pete Lakers of Columbus on his South American travels. He noted wealth concentration in many countries and pervasive poverty among the masses. During the business session, Clear Creek’s Mrs Glenn Augustin Hackberry’s Mrs David Lux and Stromsburg’s Mrs Burdette Baker were elected to the three year board terms. The county agent reported on 1965 extension activities including 4 H slides and appreciation certificates to retiring members Mrs George Tiaden Mrs Glen Augustin Raymond Burke and Richard Hiemer. A civil defense meeting was announced for Osceloa Monday evening November 29 in the district courtroom 7 to 10 pm for shelter preparedness and related topics. Duane Kantor led a fertilizer dealers meeting in Columbus with extension agronomists from the college discussing soil testing fertilizer recommendations and related subjects. The attendees found the session helpful and educational.
