E E Pengelly, minister, will lead worship at 10:00 Sunday with Sunday School at 11:00. A birthday party in the church basement on Friday invites all. September October and November birthdays will be guests. Hosts will include the rest. The church thanks God for blessings and urges everyone to attend Sunday morning services.
Carl F. Juergenson, pastor, invites visitors to regular services next Sunday at 11 oclock. All are welcome to attend.
The notice lists Sunday School at 10, Morning Worship at 11, Evening Service at 7 30, with Thursday marked as Thanksgiving Day. It urges gratitude to God for worship, church, freedom, country, and personal salvation, and invites all to attend services as usual.
The Free Mission Church schedules Sunday School at 10 oclock and a midweek service at 7 30 pm. Next Wednesday November 30 the Ladies Aid meets at 2 oclock with hostesses Mrs Hartwig Flodman and Mrs Gust Westlund.

Thanksgiving prayer recites reverence to God and thanks for blessings while a Nebraska farmer asks for printing help with farm sale bills to reach 3000 readers. Mentions P T Wurtz, Leo, and Omaha business visitors Tuesday.
On Friday morning November 18 a large group gathered at the A. O. Whittemore home to husk and crib eighty acres of corn. Fifty one men in twenty one teams worked through the day while neighbors and friends shared meals. A. O. Whittemore injured his wrist and could not husk, making the cooperative effort a notable act of neighborliness.
The Walther League held a well attended Sunday session. Prof E P Moderow led You and Your Music while Clarence Rhode spoke on the Missouri Synod. A society library was planned and committee reports showed activity. Louise Baack presented a reading and members look to the December 4 Walther appearance at Gresham.
Cyrus Eugene Doremus born September 21 1868 in Prairie de Chine Wisconsin died November 17 1938 at Lincoln General Hospital after a long illness aged 70 years 1 month 26 days He lived near Benedict Nebraska since 1896 with his wife Maude Moore and four living children Wilbur Grace Archie and Mabel Besides his wife he leaves grandchildren two brothers one sister and many friends Funeral services were held November 20 at the Benedict home with Rev Arthur Monkman presiding A quartet sang and Mrs R J Allison played piano
Mr. and Mrs Ben Berger of Stromsburg visited on Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs Willard Lindburg and family.
Arborville residents hosted a large Sunday gathering with relatives and friends visiting from York St Louis Omaha and Lincoln. Notables include Ernest Ratliff Josephine Wochner Grant Johnson and many Merchant Bedient Lantzer and Flick families. A Missionary and Aid Society program at the church closed the day with readings music and a free will offering.
Polk High fell 26 to 7 to Shelby High, extending their skid to seven. Next Thur day Nov 24 Polk meets rival Stromsburg in the turkey day clash at Stromsburg. A Wednesday night rally Nov 23 at 7 30 includes a snake dance, bonfire, street program, and pep rally for Stromsburg.
The Rebekah Lodge met Tuesday evening, November 15, and elected officers for the coming year: Sybil Otte Noble Grand, Gertrude Nelson Vice Grand, Mabel Dornburg Secretary, I T. Samuelson Treasurer, and Linnie Shafer Trustee. Refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. David Dornburga h.
The Methodist Ladies Aid gathered Thursday afternoon November 17 in the church parlors. Hostesses were Mrs Rolland Dahlin Mrs Lawrence Sundberg Garnet Strand and Mrs Will Sohagen. The program featured a piano solo by Vivian Dornburgh a duet by Mrs C N Peterson and Virginia a reading by Zolamae Willits a poem by Mrs Virgil Eisler and a Thanksgiving story by Mrs Ross Goethe. About 60 members and visitors attended.
The Polk County Fair Association met at Osceola courthouse last Wednesday afternoon. S. J. Harless Harold Schultz and August Senn were elected to the board. The group expects sufficient funds to pay all premiums after year’s start. Tax money delays caused premium payments. About $200 was received this week as the association share of Ak-Sar-Ben. Debate over a free fair hinged on crop prospects.
Frank Davis Hendrickson born February 3 1887 in Perkins County Nebraska died November 21 1938 at Osceola hospital aged 51 9 18 and was laid to rest at Osceola Cemetery after a service at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev Albert Monkman. He married Laura L Timm October 15 1914 at Osceola and leaves wife son Glen father G Hendrickson two sisters Lulu Hendrickson and Mrs Ralph Mershheim and a brother Mark plus many relatives and friends. He had been ill about a year and endured pain with quiet patience. The funeral was held November 23 at 2 30.
On December 4 the Choir of the Swede Home Church will present The Light Eternal at a candlelight service in the afternoon. The organ recital begins at 4 15 P M and doors close promptly at 4 30 P M. Local visits include Ansel Fredrickson and Dale with Mrs Kenneth Peterson in Stromsburg Hospital and other gatherings across area towns.
Post Office offers a convenient home postal kit containing stamps and envelopes. The kit lists five 3c stamps, three 2c stamps, seven 6c air mail envelopes, one special delivery stamp, two 1c postal cards, totaling 55c when bought separately. Social notes from Stromsburg mark visits and gatherings. H. B. Branting and family visit his parents in Osceola. Mrs. Ralph Tschauner travels to Claremore Oklahoma after two weeks with Nelson relatives. A Sunday dinner hosts include the Smiths and Baker family with Newman and Burke relations. A Lincoln trip involved G E Ekstrand and H M Davis to discuss farmstead inspection. A family reunion gathers Atkinson home with Thompson, Conon, Blevins, and Thompson families from Corpus Christi Grand Island Shelby. Additional dinners honor Rodney Andersons 13th birthday and multiple relatives attend.
The Polk County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting at the Rapp Hotel on Friday. Mr. Klatt of the state department of agriculture presented a colored film on the Scottsbluff bindweed district and related topics in Scottsbluff territory. Elections elected Dwight Newcomer Fred Cockson and Mrs. Lloyd Hahn for Hackberry Clear Creek and Stromsburg precincts.
Ivan Tracy of York County builds a wall of cornstalks north of young trees to act as a snow fence. The homemade fence, supported by a regular fence, aims to catch moisture and protect the windbreak in Polk County farming area.
Mr and Mrs A O Whittemore express sincere thanks to the men and women of the community and the Masonic Lodge for the kindness shown on November 18.
A flurry of Sunday gatherings and weekend visits knit together many area households. Alfred Anderson hosted relatives for a birthday dinner with the T. W. Anderson family and others from Palmer, Archer, Osceola, and beyond. Social visits continued in homes of Smiths, Maderow, Juergensen, Brauer, and Keuper, with additional travel from Iowa to pick corn.

Mrs Frank Nordberg hosted the Faithful Workers Club at her Stromsburg home on Tuesday November 22 with 14 members and 3 visitors. The Thanksgiving program featured a roll call answering with one thing to be thankful for. Mrs B Shrum led and gave a book review of Where's The Trail Divides. Mrs Ester Lackey and Mrs Otto Wallace served refreshments during the social hour. The club adjourned to meet with Mrs B Shrum December 21.
RBA traveling exhibit on income producing electric farm gear stops all day December 5 1938 at Eller's Hall Polk County Rural Public Power district sponsors. W E WhiteNebraska State College Extension Service explains machinery operation while Miss Louisan Mamer shows kitchen electricity use. Afternoon showcases include stock tank heater pig brooder motor tote r cart and dairy poultry lighting costs. Mr and Mrs Hartwig Flodman visited the Widga home Sunday.
