Pengelly minister preaches at 10:00 with Sunday School at 11:00 as he asks what value Sunday holds amid attacks on democracy art music and monarchy. He urges reflection on using Sunday for worship rest and renewal for all people.
Lutheran Church announces next Sunday services with German at 10 and English at 11 o clock. The Lutheran Hour airs at 3 30 P M. Walther League Winter Conference will be at Gresham Nebraska beginning 2 30 P M with urging for young people to attend.
The notice lists Sunday School at 10, morning worship at 11, and evening services for several churches including Methodist, Free Methodist, and First Baptist. It mentions radio hour with Bishop G Bromley Oxnam, youth meetings, bi monthly dinners, and midweek services. Local church activities and times are provided for parishioners.

The Stromsburg Masons celebrated Friday November 26 honoring member W. T. Seymour who joined the Stromsburg Lodge fifty years ago and remains active. Deputy Grand Master William J. Miss Marie Yell of Central City and Leroy Johnson of Polk were married Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha with Rev. Thomas R. Niven officiating. Attendants included Adigiles Daddow and Carl Komrosske. They plan to reside on a Polk-area farm after March 1.

The December Commercial Club session is rescheduled to Wednesday December 14. Guest speaker will be Newton W. Gaines from the University of Nebraska Extension Department, a well known figure in Polk expected to draw a strong turnout.
The marriage of Miss Mildred Kuenzh of Columbus to Lyle Dornburgh surprised many in the community. The couple wed on May 21 in Concordia Kansas and kept the ceremony secret until recently. They plan to reside in Stromsburg.

The 1938 Nebraska Pasture-Forage program ended in Omaha with three farmers earning outstanding recognition and 25 named honorable mention. Delegates from Polk County included Homer Brigham and Elmer Tooker among a large group from 60 counties. George F. Anderson of Stromsburg earned honorable mention for contour farming and certified seed advocacy.
Mr and Mrs Robert Stohl and daughter of Osceola along with Mr and Mrs Ernest Flodman and family and Carroll Flodman were dinner guests in the C Marvin Fredrickson home on Thursday. Eunice Swanson spent Thanksgiving with her parents at Swede Home. Polk suffered its eighth straight football defeat on Thanksgiving day losing 12 to 0 to rival Stromsburg on the Stromsburg field.
A REA show hosted by Polk County Rural Public Power District and State Extension Service features a motor-totor created by REA's D. W. Teare. The device lets one man move a 10 horsepower motor across farm equipment. Demonstrations run at Eller Hall four miles east and 6.5 miles north of Osceola with sessions at 10 am 1:30 pm and 8 pm for both men and women.
Swede Home families Mr and Mrs J W Tolline and Doris Toline visit over Thanksgiving. Christmas service planned December 4 at 4.15 led by Junior and Senior Choirs with 62 voices. A side entrance after 4 30 and Ladies Aid meeting next Thursday. High Prairie Club meets December 2 hosted by Mrs August Swanson. John Peter Allinder born March 12 1865 in Alsheda Sweden died November 25 1988 at age 73 years 8 months 13 days. He arrived in America 1881 settling in Polka County and married Anna Sophia Johnson October 10 1889. He leaves five children five grandchildren four brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at the home and Covenant church with Rev Palmberg Rev Smithberg and Rev Carlson officiating. Interment Stromsburg Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Willard Adelson and Mr and Mrs Adolph Forss with family of High Prairie visit Mr and Mrs Harold Johnson and Mr and Mrs Raymond Johnson as dinner guests on Thursday at the John Johnson home in Swede.
The Polk dramatic and music departments present free after noon performances each Saturday at 2:30 during December under Miss Pearson and Mr. Strickland. Sponsored by the Polk Commercial Club, this Saturday December 3 features a mixed program of dramatic and musical numbers.

Polk County notes at State University show 29 students from the county among 6810 Nebraskans. Stromsburg leads with thirteen and Osceola eight attending. Shelby, and others, reflect diverse majors from engineering to nursing as the university hits record enrollment across 34 states and abroad.
Friends report the death of Mrs Mamie Tewell at a Norfolk hospital on Thursday morning. She was a cousin of Mrs A W Shafer and Mrs Mary Blair of near Arborville.
The Light Eternal presents a candle light service by the Swede Home Church choir at 4 30 p m next Sunday December 4 directed by Miss Berniece Sward assisted by Mrs Myron Johnson with Lillie Chindgren in charge of music. Organ recital begins 4 15 and doors close at 4 30. Public invited.
