Livestock Feeders Convene in York and Disaster Prep

The Nebraska Livestock Feeders Association annual convention will be held in York December 3 and 4 at McCloud Hotel with sessions daily on flock and herd management. An earlier USDA County Civil Defense program in Osceola covers home disaster preparedness and resource planning.

Surprise Birthday Party for Mrs Gordon Fossberg

The Baptist Sunday School junior department hosted a surprise party for their superintendent Mrs Gordon Fossberg Tuesday evening in the church parlors. Guests included Gordon Fossberg Daryl Fossberg Roger Fossberg Donald Hanquist Wilbur Whitacre Emma Anderson and others. Games followed by a short program ended with birthday cards and cake. Lunch was served to 29 attendees.

Local Families Share Weekend Visits in Polk

Dr and Mrs Kenneth Strong and family of Tromsburg were Friday evening dinner guests in the Wilbur Whitacre home. Mr and Mrs Wilbur Whitacre entertained to dinner Tuesday. Rev. Leroy Gager of Seattle Wash and Rev and Mrs Gene Wood and Tami were guests. Mr and Mrs Richard Johnson and Mrs Minnie Wright were Sunday afternoon and supper guests of Mr and Mrs Wm Wright at Osceola.

Turn Animal Wastes Into Increased Crop Profits

Soil Conservation Service promotes using feedlot wastes to irrigate and fertilize corn. A farm pond can capture residues for pumping to fields, aiding erosion control and wildlife habitat. Nebraska acts under the Water Quality Act with a council to inventory feedlots and regulate pollution. The Polk County district meets November 20 at Osceola.

Monday of last week Mr and Mrs Clyde Travis of Fullerton were dinner and afternoon guests in the Roger Gustafson home. Saturday evening guests in the Roger Gustafson home were Mr and Mrs Stephen Gustafson and Stephanie, Mr and Mrs Harold Anderson, Mr and Mrs Gerald Larson and family and Mr and Mrs Don Shoup and family. Mr Marlin Jones, Gary and Lyon of Holdrege, spent Sunday with Mrs Hilmer Jones.

Home Society Honors Elle Shenk At Good Samaritan Home

The Home Society met with Elle Shenk at the Good Samaritan Home in Osceola on Wednesday November 13 to honor her birthday and present a club gift. Myrtle Johnson presided, and the group voted to send ten dollars to the Nebraska Children's Home for Christmas. Diapers were hemmed to be sent to the Home and Butternut coupons were turned in. A lunch closed the social hour.

Polk church groups share community events

The Freindship Bible Class of Evangelical Free Church met for a Wednesday dinner led by Reuben Hanquist with Elmer Naslund in charge. Polk United Methodist Church plans a Thanksgiving Turkey Supper at Community Hall on Nov 23 from 5 30 to 8 00 PM with adults 1 50 and children 75c. Tickets available at Eisler Sundries and from local families. Mrs Paul Oswald of Aurora and Mrs Reuben Hanquist attended a Lincoin student nurses convention representing the Gideon Auxiliary.
