Auxiliary To Pick Up Butternut Boxes

The American Legion Auxiliary is authorized by the Butter nut Coffee Christmas Club to collect boxes in Polk County stores and ship them to Omaha for the Butternut committee. The drive supports Beatrice and Nebraskan homes with gifts and toys for Christmas. Collect labels and certificates for all Butternut products by December 15. Mary Ruth Sloan Dies in California

Mary Ruth Smith Sloan of Los Angeles California died at her home November 17. She was daughter of Mrs Leonard Smith of Central City and formerly of Polk. She leaves husband John E Sloan two daughters from a former marriage Mrs David Oxenham of Los Angeles and Mrs Charles Monroe of Live Oaks two brothers six sisters three grandchildren and many relatives. Remains placed in The Rose Garden near Whittier California.

University Singers to Present Christmas Concert in Lincoln

Arlyce Lind of Polk is a member of the University of Nebraska Singers and will perform at the annual Christmas Carol Concert at 4 p m Sunday Dec 8 in Lincoln at First Plymouth Congregational Church. The group has 39 women and 32 men selected by audition with Earl Jenkins directing.

The Polk County Farmers Union will convene at Polk Community Hall on Monday for its annual meeting. An oyster feed will follow, with Martin Jones of Osceola, past president and retired farmer, serving as cook.

Finish Corn Harvest For Mrs Martin Smith

Nine combines and eight trucks harvested 43 acres of corn Wednesday morning for Mrs Caroline Smith. Assisting with the harvest were Arlo and Gaylord Stevens, Dick and Gary Sagehorn, Harvey and Jim Wochner, James Lindburg, Wayne Ramsey, Roger Brazda, Don Dose, Kenneth Ziegelbein, Elmer Wilshusen, Clarence Rahrs, Marvin Schulze, Paul Stevens, Lester Rohrs, Lester Rhode, Alvin Smith, Bill and Daniel Collett. Lunch and dinner were served at the Alvin Smith home by Mrs Art Dose, Mrs Lester Rhode, Mrs Viola Ziegelbein, Mrs Alvin Smith, Mrs Caroline Smith and Mrs Bill Collett.

Nance County Votes Out E S A 7 Moves Headquarters

In a November 19 meeting at the Media Center Columbus the Board of Educational Service Unit No 7 voted to move its headquarters from Genoa to Columbus since Nance County left the unit. Officers elected were Robert Kayton president Jerome Mark vice president and James Norton secretary. Louis Novak appointed to fill at large vacancy and Rev Roch of David City installed as county member for Butler County. A thanks resolution named Richard Battles M G Williams and Ernest Ondracek for their services. Next meeting set for January 20 at the new headquarters.

Mrs Julia Flodman Celebrates 87th Birthday

Mrs Julia Flodman was honored by children grandchildren and great grandchildren at her home for her 87th birthday. Christmas Program Planned by United Methodist Church

Christmas program set for Saturday December 21 at 7 30 p m. The WMS group from Evangelical Free Church met in church parlors on a Wednesday afternoon. Rev and Mrs Koelling received a Thanksgiving gift from the society. Mrs Reuben Hanquist and Mrs June Foote hosted.
