Convocation program includes flag ceremony and music

Honored at Bridal Shower for Lena Mae Baack

Miss Lena Mae Baack was honored at a bridal shower Saturday evening at the home of her sister Mrs Norman Reetz. Assisting hosts were Mrs Leo Wurtz and Mrs Charles Norquest. High and low contestants received prizes, gifts were given, and a delicious lunch was served. The wedding is set for Sunday evening November 1 at 7:30 at the Lutheran church.

Anderson Stevens Couple Wed in Grand Island

Miss Bonnie Anderson of Chambers and Dean Stevens of Chambers married at the First Methodist church in Grand Island on November 2, 1948. Dean is a Navy veteran who completed three years of service in October. They plan to reside in Chambers.

WCTU Meeting Highlighted by Sweden Talk

The WCTU gathered at Mrs. P. W. Aker’s home with a large attendance. Mrs. John Falk reported on the York state convention, two specials were given by local members, and Falk shared experiences from a trip to Sweden before a lunch hosted by the hostess.

Farmers Day Set With Polk County Extension Program

Polk County farmers are urged to mark December 7 for a full day of agricultural topics sponsored by the Polk County Crop Improvement Association and the Osceola Chamber of Commerce. The event features talks on fertilizers irrigation pastures and more plus noon meals by the Red Hat club.

Auxiliary Meets at Legion Club Rooms in November

The American Legion Auxiliary met November 8 at the Legion Club Rooms with Mrs. Oscar Jones presiding. A kitchen shower was planned for December to benefit the club room kitchen. Gifts will be sent to the veterans hospital gift shop and to service members. A quiz contest followed a luncheon for 30 hosted by Mrs. Isaacson, Mrs. Hahn, Lillie Johnson, and Mrs. Davis. Weekend visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Leo Whitmore and Carol Lee, Mrs. Bruce Hunter of York, and Mrs. Clyde Whitmore of Octavia.

Funeral for Former Nebraska Central College Professor

Pastor Milford E. Olson officiated at the funeral of E. R. Child a former Nebraska Central College biology psychology and Spanish professor. Child died at 64 in Logan County Nebraska after a leave of absence and lighter teaching duties. He is survived by his wife a daughter and a son both in California. tributes were offered by Mrs O K Carrel and Rev W McKinney with Rev M Zicheck speaking for the local church.

Pole stores close Thursday for holiday notice

All stores in Pole will close on Thursday November 25 for the holiday.
