Anderson Killed in Columbia Plane Crash Near Missouri
Orlie M. Anderson of Silver Creek Nebraska died about 6 30 P M November 2 in a crash near Columbia Missouri. Pilot Sonk sen also died. The aircraft nosed over after striking a fallen tree in fog while trying to land on a farm field. Anderson was 31 and survived by his wife Erma Vogelsang and three children Judith Wayne Mare. He had lived in Columbia since 1939 and owned Anderson Hardware. Funeral services were held in Columbia with burial there.

Polk County Treasurer Carleton Anderson reports 30 000 in personal taxes paid in the first full week after current taxes became due. Payments by mail and over the counter show strong early response. Total 1948 personal tax bill is about 237 355 with Union Pacific railroad tax still outstanding at 28 959. Anderson hopes continued early payments avoid end of period rush. He recalls past years of tax collection during hard crops.

Clarke-McNary program seedling availability announced by Extension Forester Earl Maxwell of the University of Nebraska. A few thousand Nanking cherry plants, suitable for garden windbreaks, should be planted six feet apart and will yield small red cherries when late frosts do not kill them. Plants were grown from seed from Mrs. James Koca’s Mulligan windbreak and bore abundantly in 1946 1947 and 1948. recreation training schools in Nebraska under Jane Warrell will run November 29 through December 18 with sessions in Omaha and York. registration is $2 and more recreation leaders are sought.

Halloween Party at Hardville Hall Draws 75 Attendees
About 75 attended the Halloween party of the Royal Neighbors and their husbands at Hardville Hall Friday evening. Mrs. Carl Johnson and Mrs. Wilbur Jones led the program. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Harding in blackface as Rastus and Mandy won best costumes. Lunch ended the pleasant night.
