Minnie Wright spent a birthday gift on a Progress subscription. Mrs. Forrest Anderson bought a gift for her son Lt. Dale Anderson in Viet Nam, who helps farmers there. The kindergarten classes feature Old MacDonald and mermaid songs, with Towel O Matic towels and bathroom tissue quirks noted. Polk businesses closed early Saturday, and Senior High planned play dates around November 22. The Fourth Graders query leaf color changes, explaining chlorophyll bleaches with fall. Polk County Receives $250 Centennial Betterment Award

Polk County placed second in the Centennial County Betterment Contest for 6000 to 12000 population and received a $250 check at the Centennial Banquet in Lincoln Pershing Auditorium. Bob Bryan accepted for the county as groups from Shelby Osceola Polk Stromsburg and Mildred Flodman’s book highlighted local projects.
