A Union Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Polk Evangelical Free Church at 8 00 P M on Wednesday November 21. The Polk Methodist and Baptist churches cooperate with special music and Pastor Elmer Logan will deliver the Thanksgiving message. You are cordially invited to attend.
The Polk Woman's Club met at Mrs. James Brazda Sr home on Tuesday November 6 to study the Constitution of the United States. Mrs Arnold Neuhaus assisted as hostess with Mrs Dean Myers and Mrs Norman McIntosh leading the program. Members exchanged names for Christmas and plan the December 3 luncheon at Mrs Leslie Adelson. The group decided to remember shut ins at Christmas and to send cards to servicemen.
The WSCS of the Methodist church met November 1 with 30 members and one visitor. Pres. Mrs. Mervin Samuels presided. UNICEF funds of 47.50 were reported from the children's party. An MYF Hallowe'en report followed. Bazaar and turkey dinner were scheduled for November 17. An UNESCO program was presented by several members. Refreshments were served by listed volunteers.
Clara Stettner 87 died November 8 at an Aurora rest home after four years there. Funeral services were held November 12 at St Peter's Lutheran Church Hampton, with Rev Enno Schuelke officiating. Burial in Hampton cemetery. Survivors include three daughters two step siblings and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Delano Hahn and Shirley Hahn traveled from Minneapolis to visit their mother Mrs Hannah Hahn and attend the wedding of Miss Maxine Swanson and Delan Hahn. They returned Monday morning. Mr and Mrs Albert Sundberg and Mr and Mrs Art Benjamin were guests of Mr and Mrs Don Hudson and family on Sunday afternoon.
Polk Progress reports three grand openings on Polk Main Street this weekend Brazda Farm & City Corner Cafe and Klip n Karl Barber Shoppe. It notes two locally built manufacturing plants Polk Industries Inc and Ang Manufacturing Co producing the E Z Wager and Ang Chain Tool with local and national distribution. Free rides for children on Stagecoach and Covered Wagon sponsored by the Polk Commercial Club.

The Happy Hour Club plans a door to door canvass on Saturday November 17 to collect donations on Main Street for the Columbus Opportunity Center School for Retarded Children.
Mr and Mrs Gene Bauer of Sutton announce the birth of a baby boy on Monday November 12 at Mary Lanning Hospital Hastings. The newborn weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces. Mother Donna Lee Sundberg Bauer.
Natalie Hahn and Gail Giles represented Polk at the Nebraska Farm Bureau Talent Find in Lincoln. Hahn gave a five minute talk on Farm Bureau responsibilities in agriculture and competed in the 17 30 age bracket.
