Mr. and Mrs. Everette Green announce the opening of Polk's new Electrical Appliance and Clothing Store. They have rented a building near Davis Pharmacy to offer electrical appliances and men, women, and children's clothing. More details will follow in The Progress next week.
Fire started in the furnace room destroying the Alec Adelson farm home north of Polk early Thursday. Polk and Stromsburg fire crews could not control the blaze due to a strong north wind. The Adelson family saved only a few pieces of furniture. the house was new and only partly insured.
Reverend Milford E Olson and Reverend Paul Lemke led the Grand Island Chapter formation of the National Association of Evangelicals at the Yancey Hotel. The conservative group aims at inter-church cooperation in radio relief and missions with officers elected: Harold A Sanders president, Lemke vice president, and Steve Thorn secretary treasurer.

Merle Stuart aged 34 of Grand Island and formerly Polk and Central City died instantly when crushed between a locomotive and a coal car as a freight train was switching. Miss Nelle Wisely reported on the Norfolk district conference and a new Mary Ellen Brown scholarship fund was approved. Training on Clothing Pointers for 1946 occurred in Stromsburg Polk and Osceola. The 1946 Polk County Corn Show will be December 5 6 and 7 with a Quilt Exhibit at the Electric Power and Light Company office. The Extension Conference will take the county agents away from November 14–20. Final 4-H reports are due by November 21 to qualify for awards. county fair awards await final reports.
Mr and Mrs Will Wurtz were Sunday dinner guests in the Herbert Wurtz home at Havens. Mr and Mrs Van Bush and family were Thursday evening callers in the Asa Smith home at Havens. Mrs John Baker and her sister Mary Ann Headstrom of Lincoln were callers in the CJ Me Coy home Monday. Mr and Mrs Bennie Joe Baker and son accompanied them to Polk.
Wm H Fetters of Stromsburg, Polk County's only surviving Civil War veteran, celebrated his 101st birthday on Tuesday November 13.
Osceola leader Richard Merrick was elected president of the county fair association. Don Nordberg of Stromsburg selected as secretary to replace August Senn. Oscar Boden named to the board of directors replacing resigned August Jenn.

Merle Stewarts death after being caught between two railroad cars near Grand Island is reported. The Fall Social at Methodist Church hosted Polk High School teachers with entertainment led by Rev. Lansing. Local families including the Forrester, Green, Ruch, Upton, McNaught, Nelson, Bachenberg, Johnson, Hahn, Bayne Grimes, Nyberg, and Strawberg circles are noted for visits, overseas service returns, and gatherings. The 1946 Chevrolet model is now on display at Johnson Bros. Chevrolet Co. with a larger ad elsewhere in the issue.
Stromsburg visits Polk Friday for the season finale and likely Goldenrod Conference title game. A large crowd expected as Polk crowns its king and queen at halftime while local stores close at 2 pm for the event.
Rev Harold B Street of the Sudan Interior Mission will lead a missionary conference at the local Baptist Church. Street has conducted over 350 such conferences and shared experiences from Ethiopia including war time duress. Miss Jessie Whitmore, a nurse who served among Nigerians in Nigeria West Africa, will assist. The event features Africa work films and is hosted under Sudan Interior Mission auspices.

Minnie Smith and Marie dined with Alvin Smith and family.
