Polk Cubs routed Clarks 48 to 0 last Friday afternoon with revenge guiding their play. Silver Creek visits Polk for a conference clash this Friday as fans are urged to attend and cheer the team to victory.
The intermediate grades purchased $50 worth of fiction reading material from the library fund. The Polk Band will provide a musical interlude at the Silver Creek game next Friday afternoon. Football team members attended a party in the Activity Room last Friday evening with Games played and lunch served by the Girls Pep Club.
The Local Selective Service Board announced today that a sizable list of registrants has been discharged from the armed forces. Names include Leonard J Luft Osceola Lyle D Widga Polk Orin L Bader Stromsburg and many others across Shelby Osceola Stromsburg Gresham Polk and Clark counties.
Jim Berck's arrival at Greens Chapel marks a stream of visitors and discharges. Local families greet veterans in York and Lincoln, while Arborville hosts a Home Makers Club session with salads, a leadership lesson, and notes on future meetings.
Sunday evening at 7 30 the senior piano pupils of Miss Lillie Chindgren will give a recital at Swede Home Church. The public is cordially invited. Several local residents are noted visiting relatives and hosting guests through the weekend. Abel Toline of Horton Oregon died recently and will have services at Swede Home Saturday afternoon.
Nebraska reports strong start to the Victory Bond drive with Polk County selling 101 127 50 toward a 282 000 quota. Elmer Nordlund urges residents to finish the job as Dale Clark backs meeting quotas. New $200 Series E bonds honor Franklin D Roosevelt with a likeness and pledge of every man woman and child as a partner in the undertaking.
The First Baptist Church will host a Bible and Missionary Conference from November 18 for a week under Sudan Interior Mission. Speakers include Rev Harold B Street of Ethiopia and Miss Jessie Whitmore of Nigeria who will share experiences from Africa and northern Nigeria. The event runs each evening at 8 o'clock.
Announcement of TA Reece Farm Equipment Co opening in new Osceola quarters. Tom Reece, former Polk County District Court clerk, launches firm handling a full line of Ferguson implements for the Fordson Tractor.
Thursday evening the Baptist Young People's Society met at the Creech home. Rev. Lemke led the devotional period before guests, blindfolded, toured a Halloween haunted house with witches and rattling bones. After fortune telling and ghost stories by Rena Mae Willits, a supper with Halloween cat nut cups followed at the Creech home.
The Music Department presents the first concert of the year on Tuesday November 20 at 800 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. The program features the Mixed Chorus of 55 voices the band brass and clarinet quartets the boys octet and the girls sextette. Proceeds fund equipment and general music department expenses. The band will perform a drill between halves of the Silver Creek game Friday November 9.
A note thanks neighbors who loaned pictures for the service men window display. After three years the window will be taken down as many men return home, visitors may reclaim photos at the store. Honor Rolls remain on display at the store for now.
Mr and Mrs Otto Wilshusen and their daughters were visitors Sunday at the Henry Ortegren residence in Marquette, sharing a cordial afternoon.

Paul Tipken, 26, lost fingers of his right hand in a corn picker Monday morning on the Tony Dunbier farm south of Osceola where he worked.
The candlelight wedding of Mise Althea Anderson and Gordon B. King took place Sunday evening November 4 at the brides’ home in Osceola. The Rev G A Randall officiated before 35 guests with a reception and three tier cake at the bridal table. The bride, a Nebraska University graduate and former Stromsburg teacher, and the groom, a discharged Army veteran, plan a Colorado wedding trip.
Community notices from Stromsburg and Polk list Sunday dinners and weekend visits. Rev George H Schermer and family, Otto Johnson, Ben Berger family host guests including Harold Johnson and Mardell Negley, with others from Osceola and Fremont visiting relatives. Gary Nelson undergoes appendectomy in Stromsburg Hospital during a weekend with Leland Hintz Jr and Mackprangs discharge from Army noted.
The Polk Woman’s Club met at the Or. Jones home with hostesses Mrs. Sundberg and Mrs. Virgil Eisler assisting. President Mrs. L. Cramer led the business session announcing ongoing Paper Salvage Drive clothing collection and Infantile Paralysis Fund benefit. One new member joined, Mrs Merle Stromberg. Beverly Jones gave trombone solo with Janice Sundberg. lunch for 27 followed. Tuesday visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Clark Steuffer, Dr Roy H Parker and Johnny Parker from Charlotte and Ralph Gray of York.
The Polk County Rural Public Power District in Stromsburg received a new 95000 loan allotment from the Rural Electrification Administration to finance construction of about ninety miles of rural power lines in and near Polk County. Manager W L Anderson announced the project will serve 288 farms and rural consumers and push construction as materials and labor allow.
