Churches list worship times for Re & Swede Plains with Pengelly and Juergensen as pastors. Methodist programs include Sunday School and multiple services, plus a Monday meeting for the Official Board and World Service Council and a county meeting in Stromsburg Tuesday for women.

A joint reception honored Rev Milton Berg and his wife at the Hordville church hosted Tuesday by Grace Lutheran Church of Central City and the EAidhem Lutheran Church. Pastors from nearby towns spoke and musical numbers featured a violin solo, vocal and piano performances plus a trio. The couple received a purse and flowers before a church-parlor lunch.
John Carl Christian Light II dies after brief illness at 60. Born Aug 6 1878 in Westphalia Michigan he moved to Nebraska as a child and joined Immanuel Lutheran Church as a communicant. Survived by his wife Mary Budnick two sons Ervin and another son, a daughter Norma Johnson, six grandchildren and three sisters. Funeral services held at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev Carl F Juergensen presiding.
The annual meeting of the Polk County Fair Association will be held at the Court House in Osceola Nebraska on Wednesday November 16 at 2 o clock. Jay Hastings.

Sixteen members and four visitors enjoyed Halloween lunch hosted by the hostesses.
The Polk County Farm Bureau invites all farmers to its annual meeting on Friday November 18. A covered dish luncheon starts the afternoon with group singing and a slide program on Bindweed and county fair scenes. Board members from Stromsburg Hackberry and Clear Creek Precincts will be elected by a two step ballot. Mrs Lloyd Hahn leads the resolutions committee with a report and program includes 4 H and Women projects work and general extension report by Howard L Peterson.
The W. C. T U. met Tuesday afternoon November 1 at Mrs. Glenn Hill's home with hostesses Mrs. Irvin Anderson and Miss Blanche Stevens. Devotional led by Mrs. J. McDaniel. County President Mrs. H. F Weatherland reported on the Hastings state convention and noted out of town visitors from Stromsburg Central City including Mrs Haberland Mrs Shostrom Mrs Anderson Mrs Hahn and Rev and Mrs Montzingo.
At a special Polk fire department meeting a majority voted to buy a Chevrolet truck and complete fire fighting gear. The truck is expected from Johnson Bros Chevrolet Co with other gear from a fire equipment house. A fundraising drive collected broad local support with plans to publish donors next week.
L P Samuelson 82 a Polk County pioneer died Saturday after a brief illness. Born in Sweden he settled on a Polk County farm in 1890 and was a longtime church member at Swede Plain. Funeral Tuesday was conducted by Rev Staley with assistance from Rev Hix and Rev Pengelly. He is survived by his wife and eight children and several relatives in Kansas Missouri and Nebraska.
The Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co launches a November sales drive named Bring Home The Bacon to boost telephone service in southeast and south central Nebraska. Stromsburg area workers aim for top sales and a December garden party. managers emphasize personal visits and newspaper ads highlighting rural farmer benefits.
The Polk W C T U elected officers for the coming year with Mrs J E Mc Daniel as president and Mrs Ross Goethe as vice president. Blanche Stevens is secretary and Mrs W A Lindburg treasurer. Department heads include Mrs P A Stevens child welfare, Mrs John Johnson flower mission and mercy, Mrs Ross Goethe medal contest, Mrs J E McDaniel scientific temperance instructor, and Mrs W A Lindburg union signal. Current membership is about 20.
Democratic candidate for re election Charles G Binderup paid a total of 13 dollars comprising 10 dollars fine and 3 dollars costs after pleading guilty to failing to stop at a stop sign at the highways 14 and 34 intersection. County Judge Scott presided and County Attorney Gibson entered the plea so the campaign could continue.
Mrs Paul Strand attended the birthday party in honor of her mother Mrs Esther Berggren in Stromsburg Monday afternoon.

Additional visits included C P Nelson and Mrs Ralph Tschauner from Claremore and celebrations of the fifty first wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs L P Jones in nearby Hordville.
The Women’s Foreign Missionary Society gathered in the basement of the Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon November 3. Hostesses were Mesdames Albert and Lawrence Sundberg with Mrs Will Kroger as devotional leader and Mrs Rolland Dahlin leading a program. Lawrence Sundberg reported on the Branch Convention in Wichita Kansas in early October. Arthur Gustafson reviewed the study book Moving Millions. Refreshments were served to about forty members and visitors.
The Baptist Ladies Missionary Society will hold an open meeting Wednesday evening November 16 at 8:00. Husbands are invited as special guests and the program centers on Thanksgiving with devotional led by Mrs Gailey and a play titled The Gift. A special bank offering will be taken. Mgr. and Mrs. Axel Renquist of Benedict mark their 62nd anniversary on Thursday November 3. Mrs. Renquist is 82 and he is 85, both in good health. Children Albert of Scottsbluff Henry of Benedict and Mrs. Hennie Seymour of Polk visited. daughter Mrs. A. R. Marshall of Omaha could not attend.
