The Polk County convention of Federated Women’s Clubs met at the Polk Methodist church on Thursday November 2. Seventy three members registered and attended. The program centered on American Citizenship with music readings and a book review. Speakers included Mrs A B Mead state chairman international relations and Mrs R C Caley state president. The Stromburg Club will host the 1940 convention. Officers elected were President Olaf Alfred Polk Vice President Grant Johnson Faithful Workers Secretary Oscar Sundberg Polk Treasurer Clarence Walgren Faithful Workers.

WINS HONORS AT SAFETY CONGRESS
The Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Company won first place in its class in the National Safety Council contest among public utilities. A trophy was awarded at the congress in Atlantic City for a record of six reportable injuries in 2 213 712 man hours. The York district reported 1 042 974 hours without a lost time injury on November 1 1939, the most among the companys fourteen districts. The trophy will go to York district employees for their accident prevention record.

Hunters See Snakes During Pheasant Opening

Ak-Sar-Ben funds deliver 311 to Nebraska counties
J. B. Rossiter of Walthill, chair man of the Nebraska State Racing Commission, mailed 311 checks to every county treasurer in Nebraska. The $311 per county comes from Ak-Sar-Ben racing revenues and will fund livestock and agricultural premiums for county fairs and 4-H shows. The total distribution nears 30,000 dollars, the largest since 1935, aiding poorer counties to hold local exhibitions.
