McCool Woman Elected District Oracle at Osceola Meeting
Mrs Mable Drier of McCool was chosen district oracle at the Royal Neighbors Fourth district convention in Osceola with about 150 delegates from 25 towns. Frances Torkelson Lincoln supreme officer spoke and a color drill followed by a free dance. The Osceola chapter won $5 for writing the most insurance. 13 young ladies were initiated. Plans were made for a Halloween party at Christene Cramers home on Friday October 27. Ella Cramer and Florence Shockey served a tasty lunch during the social hour. Last Friday the group gathered at Emma Petersons home for a farewell party as she moves to Stromsburg and presented a gift.

The Commodity Credit Corporation reduces loan interest from 4 to 3 percent effective November 1 1939. Polk County loans total about 106 003 36 dollars on 149 305 bushels of corn and 32 364 bushels of wheat. Banks get 2 4 percent service fee. CCC takes 1 4 of total. After October 31 lenders earn 2 percent. CCC gets 1 percent.

Five Polk county 4-H club boys Duane Schmoker Virgil Johansen Harlan Younglund Leonard Augustin and Orville Jones attended Ak-Sar-Ben. four showed calves while Schmoker showed hogs. Calves were among 600 head eliminated early. calves sold about 10.75 per hundred. Schmoker showed eight pigs born April 15 weighing 16.10 pounds, earning two red ribbons and two white ribbons. litter ranked 15th. Pigs sold Friday at 7.02 cents a pound about 90 cents a hundred above market top. Boys enjoyed three banquets and tours of Swift & Co packing plant South Omaha yards John Deere Co dinner and Onpheum Theatre.

The Polk Theatre hosts a Question and Answer evening by the Polk Commercial Club with Carl Steelquist as host. Hunting Accident Injures Hunter and Observer Near Lodge
Harold Schultz narrowly escaped serious harm when a loaded gun discharged in his car after pheasant hunting. Howard Herbes was unloading the gun. glass fragments from a water jug showered his body and face, causing a left eye injury and a cut above the eye. Several pellets also entered his left leg and some shots went through a basement hotel window.
