Four Year Old Injured When He Falls From Moving Car
Gary Cramer, four, son of Mr and Mrs Ivan Cramer, fell from the rear door of a car driven by his father on a highway east of town. Traveling at an estimated forty mph, he sustained facial and head cuts and bruises but remained conscious. He was rushed to Stromsburg hospital for stitches with no internal injuries. Parents were shaken by the harrowing incident.

Expensive Pheasant Crash Ends in Car Flip
Mr and Mrs Joel Calkins of Hebron visited in Osceola to see his parents Mr and Mrs Fred Calkins. A stray pheasant struck the windshield two miles north of Stromsburg causing the car to overturn into a ditch and catch fire. All occupants escaped with minor injuries. The new Chevrolet had fresh tires and a new motor.

Returning Vets Lead in FSA Farm Loans in 4-State Area
A new FSA report shows 81 veterans among 379 families obtaining initial loans from July to September across Kansas Nebraska and the Dakotas. Average loan is 1738 dollars for livestock machinery and farm supplies, with over half of new recipients not farming last year and 40 percent veterans. Supplemental loans for 1005 existing borrowers averaged 552 dollars, totaling 1 213 945 dollars. Repayments by rehabilitated borrowers in the period reach 3 556 955 dollars, including two FSA loans to returning veterans in Polk County.

All 1945 Farm Plans signed last spring have been issued to the Community Committee, which will contact each farm operator to gather information on soil conserving practices and the acreage of wheat seeded for those signed a wheat insurance application. Drafts and applications for sheep subsidy are in the county office. Present evidence within sixty days from the date of sale. Sheep and lambs sold to a licensed slaughterer are eligible for payment. Dairy Feed payments are made for July August and September. Signed applications must be in the office before November 30.
