Gary Green son of Mr and Mrs Harold Green manages a 15 acre rural property near town with Crested Polish and other poultry, pigeons and goats. He raises 4 H projects including Hyline chicks sold at a profit, and builds wood items while devoting hours to farm chores after school.
Mr and Mrs Verr Williams of Anselmo visited with their daughter Mrs Donald Dah lip and a family. Mr and Mrs Elwood Sandel and family were dinner guests Sunday in the Walter Nelson home. In the evening they visited Clarence Bryant in York. Mr and Mrs Dean Ostberg hosted a belated third wedding anniversary with cards and a bountiful lunch. Guests presented a gift to the honoree from Rolland Stromberg Ray Werner Duane Newton Harold and Reuben Anderson Ivan Cramer Arthur Smith Donald Scheapler and Sid Crow.
Ronald and Donald Nyberg twin sons of Mr and Mrs Walter J Nyberg of Polk Nebraska are members of the Blackhawk football squad of Norfolk Junior College. Donald plays end and Ronald lines up at tackle.
Connie Marie Lindburg, a girl weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces, born Wednesday October 28 at Stromsburg Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Lindburg Jr. in Stromsburg.
Everett Green announces the Cornhusker Council Boy Scouts of America campaign on November 10. Campaign leaders Dean Myers Alton Wilhelms Arnold Neuhaus Robert Baack Max Jones John Bills and Robert Steenbock will spend the day calling on community members for contributions.
Mr and Mrs E H Tewell spent a weekend in Hastings and Trumbull visiting their newly married son Francis Tewell and LaVern Tewell. They attended Hastings College alumni homecoming sessions honoring Tewell. Saturday they went to the funeral of Doyle Kreutz in Trumbull, father of Francis Tewell.
Leon Stunkel son of Mrs Marie Stunkel from Polk is named on Midland College debate squad for the Kick-off Debate Tourney at the University of Omaha. The annual event opens the debate season with Nebraska colleges participating.
Fifteen Polk county residents are among 645 Nebraska Wesleyan University students for 1953 54. Names include Marilyn Hahn Lloyd Hahn Sheralea Hill Patricia Doty Donald Walden Louie Whitmore Sharon Berck William Bryan La Verm Richards Eugene Anderson Duane Bennett Darlene Blakeney Carroll Burgason Carol Green Larry Lind Dorothy Sharp. Wesleyan enrolls students from 18 states and four foreign countries. total roughly steady with last year.
About 200 children from preschool to eighth grade enjoyed a community Hallowe'en party sponsored by Polk churches and City Council. A costume parade preceded games and a scavenger hunt. The event raised 3705 in donations for the needy with funds set aside for clothing and a worth cause.
The Pleasant Womenakere 4 H Club enjoyed a Thursday educational trip to Grand Island in a station wagon. They toured the fire station watched firefighters respond to a call, visited the Coca Cola plant and Fairmont Foods, explored the police station with fingerprinting, learned about the Grand Island Independent, and toured Radio Station KMM3J. Members listed include Avis Waller Diane Syndell Linda Gustafson Karen Stevens Natalie Hahn with leaders Mrs. Irvin Anderson and Mrs. Lloyd Hahn plus guests Joyce Stewart and Bonnie Hanquist.
Mrs. J O Swanson 70 a former Polk resident died Saturday at Olney Clinic Lincoln Services and burial were at Swede Home Tuesday afternoon Surviving are three children Mrs C R Lindholm Polk Mrs Arthur Streumpler and David Swanson Lincoln
