Pioneer woman Martha Ice dies in Polk at 75
Martha Celestia Oakes Ice born August 18 1861 near Centerville Michigan grew to raise two brothers then moved to Nebraska with her family. She married William A J Ice July 4 1881 and bore four children. A devoted church member she joined Congregational Arborville in 1891 and later the Polk Methodist Church. She died October 28 1936 at home in Polk aged 75 years 2 months 10 days.

Polk Rural Public Power District Wins Grant for Transmission Line Build
A telegram from the Rural Electrification Administration, Washington, D. C., grants Polk County Rural Public Power District $367,500 to construct 350 miles of transmission lines. When more agreements are signed, up to 515 miles may be built serving about 1500 customers. Farmers pay for wiring and power use. the district funds lines, transformers, meters, and stub lines. Project completion and service are expected by early summer 1937.
