An estimated $12,000 fire followed a 7,000 gallon tractor fuel tank explosion during welding repairs at the Standard Oil bulk plant in Stromsburg. Three welders and a company man were present. one worker injured. Fire departments from Stromsburg and Benedict fought the blaze as crowds gathered.

Funeral services for Mrs Karl Karlson of Lincoln were held at the Lutheran Church in Stromsburg Sunday at 2 30 pm with a brief Lincoln service the previous day. She died at Lincoln General Hospital after a short illness. Her husband died last November. Blood Drive At Osceola Red Cross Unit
The Red Cross Blood Mobile Unit visited Osceola on Wednesday May 16 for Polk County. It collected 124 pints from 155 donors with 23 rejected and eight ineligible by age. Farmers donated during the busy season and each donor helped save a life.
