Alice Mabel Stromberg Obituary Chronology and Family Ties

Alice Mabel Stromberg later known as Alice Karlson was born June 14 1891 near Clarks Nebraska and moved to Stromsburg in 1907. She married Karl Peter Karlson in 1934 and moved to Lincoln in 1942. She died May 24 1961 at age 69 after ill health. Survived by six sisters and two brothers with many relatives and friends listed among attendees and pallbearers.

Class of 1926 Holds Polk High Reunion

A joyful Polk High School Class of 1926 reunion was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Miller Friday evening after the Alumni Banquet. Attendees included Calmer Jones Fairbury Earl Burke Stromsburg Virgil Eisler Wallace Sandell Lloyd Hahn and Lyle Widen. The group reminisced and Wallace Sandell captured moving pictures. Calmer Jones attended his first reunion in 25 years and Mrs. Floyd Miller had attended every reunion. Lunch followed late.

Mr and Mrs Wallace Sandell are longtime Polk County residents active in school church and civic life. Wallace is a Gideons leader trustee of Polk Baptist Church and school board director while Sylvia heads the Women’s Gideon Auxiliary Mission Circle and Baptist Young Folk sponsor. Bible School Ends At Baptist And Evangelical Churches

The Baptist and Evangelical Free Churches completed a Bible School held May 21 to 31 at the Baptist Church with 48 children enrolled. Lessons covered several age groups taught by Imogene Hanquizet, Mrs. Bodine, Mary Lou Sandell, Ardis Nyberg, Donna Monson, Reatha Creech, Mrs. Gordon Glad, Gilbert Glad, Rev. Polk Hit By Heavy Rain Delays Corn Planting And Damages

Rain totals of 3.22 inches fell at Polk over two days delaying corn planting as fields dried enough to work. A Thursday night lightning strike at Duane Wilkinson’s farm damaged a barn, calves, hay, tractor and other machinery. A separate 4 to 6 inch downpour near Polk washed out new corn fields and disrupted UP rail service for five days.

Kenneth Davis Receives Degree at Nebraska Graduation

Kenneth Davis received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Nebraska graduation. Only twenty three earned the same degree. Katherine Rebbe also received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, a former Polk High School teacher last at Polk in 1948-49. Mr and Mrs Frank Davis attended the commencement program in Lincoln.

Obituary of Edward F Johnson

Funeral services were held at Salt Chapel for Edward F. Johnson who died May 4. Rev. Dawson Parks officiated on May 27. Survivors include his wife Anna, eight children, five sons and six daughters, plus two brothers and one sister. Johnson was born in Kewaunee Illinois in 1874 and lived in Polk Hamilton Merrick and Central City areas. The family noted his farming, Methodist affiliation, and Odd Fellows membership.

Oilers and Johnsons Win Softball Tilts

The D. X. Oilers beat Fredricksons Swedehomers 13 to 9 marking their second straight victory on May 29. Junior Sealey led with three safeties while Wes Johnston and Swanson matched that mark for the losers as the Oilers built an 8 0 lead before the Swedehomes rallied. In the second game Chevrolet defeated Cornhuskers 13 to 8 in five innings, with Eugene Klingsporn driving in two runs for the Cornhuskers amid many errors and walks.
