Grasshopper war and new Quarter Horse contest at county fair

The Polk County Grasshopper Control Association begins baiting as farmers wage war on grasshoppers. A 1948 County Fair will feature a Quarter Horse Contest by the Polk County 4H Saddle Club. Community members attend funerals, reunions, and family visits across Stromsburg Osceola Cozad and Hays Center with numerous social events and travel notes.

All-state Fine Arts students depart for University of Nebraska

Gary Green of Stromsburg and Steve Funk left Saturday for Cody Wye to join the annual All-state Fine Arts course at the University of Nebraska. Mrs R. O. Robertson of Denver stayed overnight with the Alfreds. Art Ekdahl of Scottsbluff was a supper guest with the Ekdahls. Lloyd Hahn and Henry Reed visited Myra Cox at the Harrison home near York. Orlie Miller and Chas Lytle hosted Saturday guests. Ted Bloom and wife, formerly Ruby Shafer, are visiting Nebraska residents in Roseburg Oregon. Verlene Anderson hosted the Happy Hour Club with 14 members and 1 visitor on May 16.

School Board Holds Regular Meeting in Polk County

The Polk County School District No. 72 board met with full attendance. Minutes and bills were reviewed and approved. New officers were elected with Gerald Stevens as president and Bob Willits as vice president. A Ford bus was approved for purchase per contract.
