Scott Charlies weighing 7 pounds was born to Mr and Mrs Charles Stromberg of Lincoln on Sunday May 24 at Bryan Memorial Hospital. Harry Kennel announces the arrival of a son May 24 at York General Hospital.
All legionnaires are called to gather at the Legion Hall at 9 o'clock Saturday morning May 30. Members not contacted for firing squad or color guard should wear their Legion hat.
Marilyn Hahn will appear on the Hobbies Unlimited program on Channel 3 KMTV this Sunday May 31 at 7 P M. She will display an eight year collection of 4 H Award ribbons and over 200 key chains from the United States Canada and Panama City. The items are mounted on presswood rings and labeled with each donor. The show has been voted the most popular television program in Omaha.
Donna Monson and Shirley Hahn hosted a bridal shower for RoJean Nelson with classmates and friends. Guests played games and assembled a scrapbook while refreshments were served. gifts reflected wishes for a lovely future home.
Memorial Day services set for May 30 in Polk at 10 a.m. in the high school auditorium with Rev. Milton O Connor delivering the address under the Ameri Scan Post No 160 banner. Arborville also holds its annual services at 2 p.m. that afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Ollie Johnson visited the Don Johnson home in Osceola on Sunday.
Max Jones was elected the new commander of American Legion Post No. 160 for the coming year, succeeding Henry Eisler. Alton Wilhelms becomes vice commander, Dean Myers and Bob Steenbock are re elected as adjutant and finance officer, with installation set for the June meeting and a free steak feed for legionnaires.
Mr and Mrs Jacob Harding announce the engagement of their daughter Virginia Lea to Robert Wayne Peterson son of Mr and Mrs A J Peterson of Polk The notice notes the couple together and identifies both families in this forthcoming marriage.
Notice to all students invites attendance at a Sunday gathering in city park at 2 o clock to receive the 1953 school annuals. Annual price is 2.50 dollars. Luncheon guests after church services were Mr and Mrs Walter Nelson Rev and Mrs Klwood Antihitsun with Mr and Mrs Elwyn Johnson.
Friday afternoon has been set for the first session of the midget aspirants. The midget baseball committee calls all players aged fifteen and under to be at four o'clock at the baseball field on Friday May 2th to try out for the team. Bring a glove and shoes and be ready to play.
A bridal shower for Miss JoAnn Lind was held in Swede Plain church parlors on Saturday. Local hostesses included Mrs. Phillip Johnson and others, with pink and green decor and bridal games. Gifts were opened as guests shared thanks for the gifts toward JoAnn’s new home. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Person and others visited the George Burke home at Central City that evening.
Union Memorial Day Services will be held at the Baptist Church at 2 30 p m on Sunday Rev Nels Pearson will bring the Memorial sermon A roll call of those who passed away during the past year will be given Special music will be provided during the service
The Polke business houses will remain open on Wednesday nights starting the first week of June with band concerts this year directed by Mr Crandell from Central City High School. Closing time will be 7 PM. Week end guests included Mr and Mrs Lyn Bedient of Norman Oklahoma visiting Mrs Charles Whittemore and family. Gloria Adelson of Moline Illinois visited Theo and Martha Larson and relatives. Carlyn Strand's graduation was celebrated with a Thursday night reception hosted by Mr and Mrs Paul Strand, with many guests from Omaha C O Peterson Stromsburg and York among others.
The American Legion Post of Polk hosts an organizing meeting for a Boy Scouts of America troop in the Community Hall. Mr Fleming of the National York Council will outline steps for Polk area participation. a younger Cub Pack may start this fall. Boys aged 11 to 18 and their parents are urged to attend on Sunday at 3 o'clock.
The Commercial Club announces that all business houses observing holidays will be closed on Memorial Day Saturn to May 30. Several stores will open briefly Saturday morning but close at nine o clock for the alumni banquet. The Polk Theatre shows Friday and Saturday. the Austrian Leston Club will be open for Blas events but close Saturday.
The Co op Oilers exploded for a big fourth inning to beat Legion 14 by 11 to 7 in the Polk Softball League opener. Rain began to fall late in the sixth while several games were disrupted and the schedule shifts to a Ision versus Butchers early game and Rankers versus Oilers in the nightcap next Tuesday.
A gathering at Mrs. Martha Shostroms home honored her nephew Dale Peterson after graduation. Attendees include Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Peterson Colene Mrs. Wm. John Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Johnson and families Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Johnson and the Christen seh children. Coffee and refreshments were served. The Ostberg families visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. Olof Ostberg for Sunday dinner with Donald and Dean Ostberg.
