Commencement Exercises Held at Methodist Church
Last Thursday evening May 21 at the Methodist Church commencement exercises were led by Rev RB Pengelly with invocation. Paul W Hornley of Grand Island delivered the address as music from the class and a solo by Maurice Ellison accompanied the ceremony. Carl Greelquist presented diplomas and Supt Horstman awarded scholarships to Elinor Taylor Thompson Allison and Marlin Bedient. Rev Bailey gave the benediction.

Roy Stouffer of Polk became the owner of the Pure Food Grocery from Mr. and Mrs. Dean Nelson. Stouffer will run both the grocery and meat business, with Dave Carlson managing the meat side. Wrecked Chevrolet Sedan Involving Youngquist Near Thompson Home
A Chevrolet sedan owned by Alex Youngquist was completely wrecked when it struck a telephone pole and overturned near B. L. Thompson’s home Thursday at noon. Driver Wesley Youngquist escaped with minor injuries after losing control over a bump. Pure.Ora Olson arrived from California for a prolonged visit, a former city resident now living in California. Ralph Davidson, staying ten days with Mrs. Amanda Elfors, has a position with the Kansas City Stock Exchange. The forty-ninth annual commencement exercises at the local high school were held Friday with W. H. Morton of Lincoln delivering the address. Diplomas went to 37 seniors as H. Christensen presided, with Maurine Nordlund and Lois Ingman earning class honors. A. L. Hedbloom and Clarence Rudeen, with Harold Schultz, attended the Nebraska Young Republican Convention in Kearney. Mrs. Arlene Kroger of Schuyler underwent appendectomy at a Grand Island hospital Thursday.

Plans Made for Rural Electrification By Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power
The Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Company will start an immediate general farm electrification program based on lower farm rates and line extensions where two customers per mile can be secured. Manager R A Graham cites improved business conditions and rising electricity use as reasons and says cheaper power will encourage farmers to electrify homes barns and yards and adopt refrigeration radios and modern lighting. Information on the new farm rate schedule and line extension plan is available at company offices.

In the Osceola federal case Clair Barns v Nelson Brown the defendant filed a general denial and asked for judgment. The suit stems from a June 15 1935 auto accident six miles northwest of Osceola in which the rural mail carrier says he backed across the highway to drop a letter and the other car driven by a cousin of the plaintiff struck his rear.

Pasture Improvement Contest Sees 725 Nebraska Farmers Enter
The 1936 Pas ture Improvement Contest attracted 725 Nebraska farmers, up more than 300 from last year and with 14 additional counties. Polk county has 21 entries, and Nance county leads with 44 while Richardson has 41.
