Samson announces H. W. Herbes as Ambassador to Ak-Sar-Ben for Polk. Yearly events listed include May 29 to July 5 race meet introducing the camera eye finish line photography. Den Shows run starting June 7 for seven Mondays, followed by buffets and dancing. Union Pacific night on June 21 invites residents, tickets from the Ambassador.
Paul E. Carlson pastor announces Sunday School at 10 Morning Worship 11 Evening Service 8 Camp Grounds picnic Friday afternoon for the Sunday School. Young People's Meeting and Junior Endeavor Wednesday 8 p m. Daily Vacation Bible School starts next Monday for two weeks.
M E Church notes announce Memorial Day morning service honoring veterans and ex-soldiers. The schedule includes Sunday School at 10, worship at 11:15, Young People's Service at 6:30, and evening services at 7:30. Vacation Bible School starts Monday with organizer meeting at Viking Hall.

Carl F. Juergensen, pastor, announces regular services next Sunday at 10 30 a m. The school term ends Friday May 28. Next Sunday is Decoration Day. The church invites all to attend and honors those who die in the Lord.
Polk County received a soaking rain Tuesday night the first in many moons. The county-wide precipitation measured about 1.5 inches and farmers report benefit to wheat, with much of the corn likely to be replanted under improved conditions.
Bertha Johnson of Swede Home married Howard Andersen son of Mr and Mrs John Andersen of Omaha at Home Lutheran Church Swede Home on May 28 Rev Sward officiated. Attendants included maid of honor Clarine Johnson and best man Charles Andersen. Reception in church parlors and trip to Colorado Springs before settling in Omaha.
The Polk public school project faces continued scrutiny in Washington as Senator Norris signals support for 45 percent grants under the continued PWA program. Norris argues spending should proceed despite tax revenue shortfalls, and project work could resume soon if approved.
The First Baptist Church announces a two week Vacation Bible School from Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 11:15 daily, June 11th closing. Miss Lidi Lind leads as superintendent with new songs, classes for high school youth, and volunteer staff. Prayer and Bible study are scheduled and choir is cancelled next Thursday evening.
Acting on county attorney orders Sheriff Peterson orders the removal of all slot machines and punch boards in the county Osceola residents spend about 800 dollars in nickels each month on slot machines alone The estimate suggests these machines represent the county's most costly indoor pastime with towns sharing the expense.
Sunday dinner guests included the Sechtem Peterson and Campbell families of Gresham and the Brittell family of Hastings. J Carl Bryant plans to leave for Greeley Colorado for summer school. their house is rented to Robert Paul of St Paul. Iowa visitors Huff and Pettit came to see the Shermadines. Pettit returned home, Huff and son stayed longer. Maple Leaf Club met May 20 at Ida Ferris’s. picnic set for June 6 at the Park Osceola. Bertha Berck to entertain June 3. one new member joined. meeting adjourned after a light lunch.
Mrs Theo Stevens and Lawrence Sundberg were Omaha visitors Friday. Mrs Lawrence Sundberg, who had been visiting in Omaha, returned home with them. Wm Stevens and Blanche, Sheralee Hill and Roberta Nelson visited Mrs Glenn Hill and her baby at the Lutheran hospital in York Sunday.
Decoration Day program at Viking Hall starts 1630 with group singing and mixed chorus. Rev Carlson Rev Bailey deliver address and benediction. City Park services follow. All pork businesses close 10:00 AM, general stores stay closed rest of day. drug stores and stations reopen after services.
Local residents from Swede Home to Osceola and Clarks enjoyed Sunday and weekend visits with relatives and friends. Figures include Osceola graduation attendees Tola Ecklund Florence Ecklund Elinor Taylor, and many listed families visiting in Grand Island Hastings Omaha and Gresham.
A nearly two hundred Polk County youths received eighth grade diplomas at the Muse Theatre in Osceola. Bess Gearhart Morrison delivered the keynote address as students from numerous districts were listed by name in the honor roll section.
Arborville reports include visits from Miss Edna Giauque of Brush Colorado and Glenn Pickrel of Central City. Decoration Day services announced for May 31 at 2:00 in the Town Hall. Community Club gathering hosted by Mrs Harry Guidinger. Various families hosted dinners picnics and greetings across York Unadilla Julesburg Bradshaw Shelby Polk and Central City areas.
The town will stage a Real Old Time Fourth of July with baseball, carnival, fireworks, and a parade after a Community Club vote. The event follows Stromsburg High School’s 50th anniversary alumni gathering and honors include speakers Guy W. Green and Everett Lake.

Marie Sherwood and Percy Gray wed at Swede Home parsonage and will farm near Bradshaw. Strand family visited Esther Berggren in Stomsburg and Orville Hoffman hosted at Lawrence Hoffman’s home.
The Walther League of Immanuel Lutheran Church held its annual Fellowship Dinner and reception for newly confirmed members. The event, part of the International Walther League, highlighted the organization s history and aims with readings, music, a candle lighting ceremony, and a dinner served by the Ladies Aid.
Lincoln awarded grading to Abel Construction and bridge work to Capitol Bridge. advance engineers arrive in Osceola to establish headquarters. Project set to begin soon with work between Shelby and Osceola slated for the first week in June. All workers must apply at their local post offices for social security numbers.
The Dorcas Society will hold a 2:30 PM meeting in the Swede Home church parlors Friday with Harriet Thelander and Francis Carlson as hostesses. Local families visited, attended Luther College commencement, and hosted or joined various gatherings across Stromsburg, York, Hordville, and nearby farms.
