The Stromsburg high school marks the golden anniversary of its first graduating class of 1887 during May 19 commencement activities. Honor guests include Everett Lake, Guy Green, Andrew Nuquist, C. A. Morrill, and Bertha Lowe Beacher with address by F. E. Henzick.
Polk County Eighth Grade Promotion Exercises
Eighth grade pupils from Polk County are scheduled for a May 21 1937 ceremony at 2 00 p m in the Muse Theatre Osceola. The program lists processional inspirational music by teachers orchestra invocation by Rev McClure selections by the rhythm band and a diploma presentation with reserved seating and no admission charge.

Stromsburg seniors crown 1937 May Queen at Festivities
A large crowd from Stromsburg and nearby areas attended the Senior Night events at the high school. The Senior Class Play The Million Dollar Butler was well done, followed by the May Queen ceremony naming Miss Euleanor Ericson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Ericson, as 1937 May Queen.

Mrs Otto Peterson Dies at 78 in York After Illness
Mrs Otto Peterson 78 died at her York home after several weeks illness due to a heart ailment. She came to Polk County in 1885 and lived in Stromsburg for years with husband Otto Peterson in the shoe business. The family also farmed near Stromsburg and later resided in York. Funeral services were held at the J L Olson home with Rev A F Truedin officiating. Surviving sons are John of York Claud and Albert of Scottsbluffs and Charles of Kansas. burial in Stromsburg Cemetery.

Funeral Services for Arthur J Carlson Held Near Stromsburg
Funeral services for Arthur J Carlson a well known farmer from near Durant were held at the Edwin L Anderson Funeral Home and Stromsburg Baptist Church. Rev A E Carlson of Wichita Kansas led the service. Carlson 56 died at home May 12 after long heart trouble. He was born in the Stromsburg area and survived by wife two sons five brothers and four sisters. Burial was in Stromsburg Cemetery. Reuben Jones named new mechanic at Bengtsons Garage replacing Roland Wickberg who moved to Columbus. Edna Olson completed a year teaching in Leigh schools and will spend summer with her parents. Elijah Gove chapter D A R held its final meeting of the year with officers elected for the new year. Commencement exercises for Stromsburg High School Class of 1937 were held with Dean F B Henzlick of the University of Nebraska delivering the address.
