A Progressive era style notice urges National Save The Soil Week May 23 30 to protect soil and conserve earth. The Polk locals list graduations, new postings, ROTC cadet wing appointment, Navy radar training, confirmation services, and open house 25 years of marriage.
The C Y F of the Baptist church and families honored Polk school seniors and eighth graders after Sunday services. Donald Hanquist led singing, Arnold and Mark Wood played a duet, Vicki Bjerrum read a poem, and a girls trio sang. Rev Wood spoke. refreshments followed the program.
Memorial Day program on May 30 1965 at 11 00 AM in the high school auditorium featured Prelude Invocation Pledge of Allegiance vocal solo address and a Ladies Sextette led by Lynda Myers Rev B A Barnell Rev William Pinkernell Rev Gene Wood with Benediction by Rev Harold W Jensen and a recessional by Lynda Myers. Attendees proceeded to Lilac Lawn to pay tribute to war dead with a bugler and echoed bugler performances by Arlyce Lind and Myrna Merchant.
The Polk Garden Club gathered Tuesday May 18 at Florence Hoffman’s home with Marie Hoffman assisting. Fourteen members and two visitors attended. Edna Neeman, president, led the business as Garnet Miller and LaVina Hanquist led the program.
The program titled God and His World ran last week at Fridhem Lutheran Church with 34 children enrolled. Teachers included Mrs Albin Benson and others. helpers were Bonnie Damouche, Janet Quick, and more. A Sunday parents night showcased projects. The Good News club held its final May 17 meeting with 42 children and will resume weekly in the new school year.
Summer recreation starts Monday May 31 with age grouped sessions. Boys 7–9 at 6 30 p m and 10–12 at 8 p m on opening day. June schedule continues with various groups and times through June 4. Donations requested and may be left at Polk Progress.
Former Lt. Gov. Dwight Burney headed the welcoming committee for a Lincoln dinner honoring Senator Carl Curtis. Rudolph Nyberg Vayden Anderson attended along with Mr and Mrs. Burney and others as Nixon guest speaker. more than two thousand people paid fifty dollars for the event at Lincoln.
