Marv Fredrickson Chosen Mayor for Another Year

The Village Board reappointed Marvin Fredrickson as mayor for a new year at last week’s meeting marking the start of the village’s new fiscal year. Arnold Neuhaus and Chancey Gustafson were rehired as Light and Water and Street Commissioners. Eldon Johnson was named Village Clerk. Mrs. W. A. Wurt will act as Village Treasurer. Dave Ekdahl’s village marshal application was accepted with a $10 monthly raise for automobile expenses. Gustafson also received a small pay increase.

Klingsporn Honored At University Of Nebraska

Polk resident Malvern J Klingsporn is among 23 top first year ROTC cadets at the University of Nebraska honored with Minute Men medals. Lt Col Alex C Jamison and Col J B Ladd presented awards funded by the Sons of the American Revolution for outstanding ROTC work.

Baccalaureate and Class Night Schedule Listed

Community events outline a baccalaureate service on Sunday May 17 and class night activities on Tuesday May 21 with a Commercial Club meeting on Monday May 19 and a Country Womens Club event on Thursday May 22.

Polk High 1952 Graduates Receive Verbal Bouquets

The 38th Polk High senior class of 16 students are saluted for scholastic achievement and school activities. Marlyce Shostrom leads as class president with extensive music roles, Leora Ruth Meyer is in band and choir, Marilyn Johnson excels in drama and embroidery, Emil Rosno and Frank Ostrander star in sports, Vern Samuels shines in dramatics, Marilyn Lind active in church and sports, Annette Wilshusen was football queen, Donna Monson explores napkin collecting, Jpanelle Kroger participates in band and chorus, Marvin Nelson headlines sports and glee, Duane Johnson works in shop class, Barbara Walker leads youth groups, Clarence Peetzke Jr contributes in shop and sports, Bob Peterson plays football and basketball, Sheralee Hill earns top music and 4-H honors, and many others balance academics with community service and school spirit. They leave Polk High to pursue future paths.

Four-Team Softball League Formed With Local Rosters

At a Wednesday meeting with captains and the Commercial Club, the city will run a four team softball league on one weeknight. Polk county players only. Co-op Oil and Citizens State Bank new sponsors joining American Legion and Johnson Chevrolet. Managers named for each team with committee oversight to keep teams even as rosters are finalized.

Grade School Operetta Featured By Pamela Cramer and Others

The grade school presented an operetta last Friday night with Pamela Cramer Bruce Johnson Frank Harding and Beverly Peet in leading roles. A large crowd attended as the lower grades performed a May Pole dance and a rhythm band.
