Mother's Day Visits and Parish Sale At Arborville

The Arborville Church hosted a Parcel Post Sale and supper last Friday at the hall drawing a good crowd. Families including Earle Eaton and the Merchants hosted and visited kin across Stromsburg Hampton York and Omaha with many dinner guests and Sunday calls among local residents.

Celebrated Wedding Anniversary Noted by Several Families

Arthur Bates Named Charter Member of Wesleyan Band Fraternity

Arthur Bates of Polk is a charter member of the Beta Iota chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Wesleyan chapter, first in Nebraska, was activated on campus by national officers. Bates plays in the Pride of the Plainsman concert band, which completed a 1200 mile midwestern tour this season under Professor Leslie Marks.

Polk Lady Is Guest of Governor at Lincoln Banquet

Mrs. Lloyd Hahn, Polk County women's division chairman, attended a banquet with Gov. Val Peterson at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln on Wednesday. The invitation honored community service in War Bond and Savings Bond drives. Other Polk guests included Elmer Nordlund of Stromsburg and Howard Pierce of Osceola.

Philip Meline Graduates From Air Force School

Sgt. Philip Meline graduated this week from the Air Force Communications School at Scott Air Force Base Illinois. He was trained as a control tower operator and will serve at an Air Force installation directing local air traffic to improve safety. Meline age 20 is the son of Mr and Mrs Hans H Meline Polk and has served in the Air Force Reserve since 1946. He previously served with the Army of Occupation in Korea before attending the Scott school.

Textile Demonstration Draws Local Crowd at Church Basement

About 40 people attended the textile demonstration sponsored by Merry Makers and Pleasant Home Makers 4-H Clubs at the Methodist Church basement on Saturday. Margar et Crosby of Osceola presented as demonstrator while 4-H girls painted a tea towel design. Dainty refreshments were served by club presidents Marcia Johnson and Marilyn Hahn, with music provided by club members.

Clarence Rahrs a prominent farmer near Polk suffered a fractured leg last week after his tractor flipped while he tried to pull his car from mud. Mrs Rahrs and Melcher Widga freed him from under the machine and he can now move with crutches.

Accident victim Dean Lindburg shows slow improvement

Latest bedside reports from Stromsburg Hospital indicate 12-year-old Dean Lindburg son of Mr and Mrs Willard Lindburg is improving slowly after a fracture of the skull April 30 when jacks slipped from under a car he was helping repair.

Legion Auxiliary Met for May Meeting and Benefit Tea

The American Legion Auxiliary met May 9 at the legion hall. Committees reported, a Benefit Tea was approved for May 24 with 50 cent tickets, proceeds to Veterans Hospital for a Movie Projector. Nomination committee named three members. Mrs. Henry Horstman gave a tea report and book review. program featured discussion on the Poppy, Poppy stamp, and Flanders Field with a solo by Mrs. Ivan Cramer. A lunch for 35 followed.

The Polk High School junior class held a Silver Star Night Club themed banquet for seniors with blue streamers and star decor. House Warming At Hanquist Home By Baptist Group

The Home Builders Class of the Baptist Sunday School held a house warming at the Elmer Hanquist home last Wednesday evening. About 40 members attended as hymns were sung and Rev. Lemke led scripture and prayer. Wilbur Whitacre sang a solo and Clarence Creech spoke on home. Mrs. Horstman read a poem and Elmer Hanquist expressed appreciation for the Hanquist family.
