Hordville Plans New Cement Elevator Replacing Old Structure
The Hordville wooden elevator is being torn down and replaced by a three story cement building. Tillotsen of Omaha will manage the project. The 43 by 43 foot facility will hold 70 000 bushels and require more workers as operations begin. Clarence Bodine of the Farmers Elevator says past savings will cover the cost. Polk residents helped tear down the old elevator.

Former Baptist Pastor Buried at Grand Island
Funeral services for Rev. Fred W. Benjamin, retired Baptist pastor, were held Saturday afternoon April 23 at two in the Baptist Church. Born July 21 1866 in Zanesville Ohio he ministered in Nebraska California and South Dakota before retiring in 1934. He is survived by his wife Mary Florence and six grandchildren among other relatives.

Pleasant HomeMakers 4-H club members gathered at the high school grounds for a tree planting ceremony. One of three Polk County clubs to receive a Hackberry sapling from Ak-Sar-Ben Omaha for 1948 and 1949 work, the event included song Arbor Day and a recital of Joyce Kilmer's The Tree. Members placed their names in capsules near the roots while leaders Mrs. Lloyd Hahn and Mrs Irvin Anderson photographed the event with parents and friends.
