Final School Week Busy Schedule From Supt Nielsen

The final school week includes Baccalaureate on Sunday May 14 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. May 15–17 end exams and papers with dismissal 2 20. Honors Night May 16 at 8 p.m. Commencement May 18 at 8 p.m. Report cards issued May 19 with buses operating plus return lunches. no school picnic planned.

A squad of 15 Polk lettermen will enter field and track events at the state district track meet in Seward this Friday.

Commencement Speaker Udlock to address Polk High Class of 1967

Frederick E. Udlock Associate Professor of Christian Education and Bible at Hastings College will deliver the commencement address on May 18 for Polk High School's Class of 1967. He is a 1929 Centre College graduate with a 1932 Biblical Seminary Master of Religious Education and a Nebraska education psychology master. He has served Hastings College for 19 years, and he is married with two sons and two grandchildren.

Genoa Wins Goldenrod Conference Track Meet at Stromsburg

Genoa led by senior Larry Pila kowski upset to win the Goldenrod Conference Track and Field Meet held at Stromsburg on Tuesday May 2. Polk Cubs placed fourth with 28 points as Genoa 58 and St Edward 54 topped. New conference records included 1 Mile Relay 3 40 6 by St Edward 2 Mile Relay 9 03 9 by St Edward 100 yd dash 10 2 by Rich Good of St Edward 2 Mile Run 10 50 7 by Dave Fleck of Stromsburg.

Natalie Hahn Named Maid of Honor at Ivy Day

Natalie Hahn was revealed as Maid of Honor to the May Queen at the University of Nebraska Ivy Day celebration on the Lincoln campus. The May Queen and Maid of Honor are chosen by a popular vote of junior and senior women. Mr and Mrs Dwight Burney attended the ceremonies.

Hamilton Busy Beavers 4-H Club Meets at Lutheran Church

The Hamilton Busy Beavers Girls 4-H Club held its fifth meeting on May 2 at 4 00 P M in the Lutheran Church basement with Dorothy Bush as hostess. Twenty members attended and discussed project plans. The next meeting is set for May 20 1967 at 2 00 P M with Kande Erickson as hostess.

Judith Gustafson Carlson Adelson obituary notices 1894 1954

Judith Henrietta Gustafson born near Swede Home Nebraska in 1894 married twice to David N Carlson 1914 and Arthur Adelson 1954. She lived on farms near Polk and was active in Swede Plain and Polk Methodists. She taught Sunday School sang in choirs and wrote religious poems. She died May 4 at 72 years and was buried in Swede Plain Cemetery after funeral services at Polk Methodist Church.

Polk Public School Plans Six Week Summer Session

Polk public school proposes a Title I summer program from May 29 to July 4 with six weeks of math language arts physical education health and safety. Enrollments target 40 students in grades 2 through 6 with three instructors Mrs Mildred Sterner Karlay Hegwood Allyn Chambers and Karl Adamson. Bus transportation will be provided for country students and letters will go to parents.

Polk Girls Win 56 4 Over Shelby In Local Softball

Polk girls softball routed Shelby 56 to 4 in five innings Sunday at the local diamond. Shelby struggled in its first year while Polk prepares to host Clarks Friday. Also, 10 and under boys play Benedict Thursday at 8 PM, and the Recreation Fund gained 60 with cash from Farmers Coop Grain, Arnold Neuhaus, and the Polk Woman's Club.

Legion Auxiliary Meets in Legion Hall May 8

The American Legion Auxiliary gathered at the Legion Hall on Monday May 8 with Lauretta Neuhaus presiding. She reported on a Beatrice trip a plastics bottles delivery and an April 17 Home tour. Wreaths will be made May 29. Polk Alumni banquet is May 27. new officers include Kislen Miller Stromberg Brockevelt.

Omaha Hospitals Treat Parents and Child

Mrs. Everett Goertzen entered St. Joseph hospital in Omaha for surgery on May 1 and is now recuperating at home. Wayne Creech and wife took their son David to Children’s Hospital in Omaha where he had a tonsillectomy.
