Kite Flying Contest Promises Gentle Winds Sunday

Field west of Don Millers hosts a kite day with prizes for youngest and oldest flyers, prettiest kite, smallest and biggest kites, and more. The writ talks of past windy weeks, 90 degree heat, and a shift back to cooler weather, with local notes on gardening, fishing trips, and humorous asides.

Mrs Arthur Adelson Funeral Thursday

Mrs Arthur Adelson died suddenly at 12 15 A M Sunday April 30 at the Adelson home near Polk. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 4 at 2 00 PM from the Polk Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband Arthur a daughter Melba Ann of Polk a son L D Bud Carlson of Jacksonville Miss and a daughter in law and four grandchildren. Visiting hours at Kepner Roberts Mortuary Osceola are 10 AM to 8 PM. Obituary next week.

Summer Recreation Fund Opens with Donations Total $205

The American Legion contributes $100 to start the fund. The Country Women’s Club adds $5 and the Village Board approves a $100 withdrawal from the Park and Amusement Fund, bringing the total to $205.

Polk WSCS Bus Tour to Omaha and District Meeting

Eighteen Polk Methodist WSCS members and four guests toured Omaha by bus visiting the Krol Home Blair and the Wesley House of the Omaha City Missions and attended the show The Bible. They returned for supper at Wahoo. One car load attended the WSCS district meeting at Columbus on Thursday.

Arborville Boys and Bugs Club Forms Focus on Entomology

A new 4-H Club on entomology was organized Friday evening April 28 at the Ted Otte home. The Arborville Boys and Bugs Club elected officers Steve Morris president Lawson Reckner vice president Dennis Ditloff secretary Kevin Graves news reporter. Lunch was served by Mrs Otte. The next meeting is June 7 at Mrs John Wochner home leader of the club. Kevin Graves reporter.

Golden Wedding Celebrated by Blair Guests

Mr and Mrs Grant Johnson and Mrs Margaret Bower stayed with Mr and Mrs Manley Fisher in Blair to mark their 50th anniversary. Polk guests included Mr and Mrs Ester Lackey and Mr and Mrs Ralph Fisher. About forty dined at the Cottonwood Marina Club hosted by the Fishers.

Faithful Workers Club met at Mrs. Don Hudson's home with four teens and three visitors. Mrs. Winnifred Lackey led and plans for a Polk park picnic in May were made. Mrs. Martin Hoffman led the program. Password was played. Mrs. Darold Hoffman had the specialty. Mrs. Lyle Widge won the hostess gift.

Opening game for girls softball set for Thursday

Shelby and Polk will open the girls softball season on Thursday night May 4 with a 7 30 start. The girls games are normally Wednesday but a date conflict moved this game to Thursday.
