Leonard Peterson Dies At Aurora

Leonard Peterson aged 78 of Hardville died Monday evening May 6 at Aurora hospital after being admitted Sunday. Survived by two sons Conrad and Gordon at home and daughter Mrs Leslie Nicholson of Newport Beach California. brothers Ben Crestview Enoch Polk and Arthur Culver City and sisters Mrs Esther Morgan and Mrs Julia Jones of O Neill. Preceded in death by wife and an infant daughter. Funeral services pending at Mamne church southwest of Hordville.

School dismissals set through May 17

School ends May 15 with 2 20 dismissal Wednesday. Friday May 17 buses run routes to ensure report cards arrive by 11 15 with buses departing at 11 30 from the school grounds.

The school board reorganized at its meeting Monday night with Gerald Stevens chosen as the new president. Dale Lindburg becomes treasurer and Dick Sealey Jr. remains secretary, with Dwayne Miller Roger Hanquist and Robert Willits as other members.

Poppy Day to Honor War Dead in Polk County

Saturday May 18 marks Poppy Day in Polk with American Legion Auxiliary volunteers selling red paper flowers made by hospitalized veterans. Each donation helps fund veteran aid and the program provides a small income for veterans. no fixed price is required and all money goes to veterans and their families.

Polk Cubs Track Star Bob Brockevelt Dominates Meets

Bob Brockevelt, Polk High senior discus ace, remains unbeaten this spring. He won at Kearney Invitational with 136 ft and led Stromsburg Triangular with 12714 ft, while Polk and Palmer tied for second at 49. In Goldenrod Conference action at St Paul Polk placed fourth as Osceola won. Neuhaus and Lindburg posted event wins and records. The Cubs head to Hastings for the district meet.

Junior Lawmen attend event in Columbus with Legion support

The Junior Lawmen Dudley Baack attended "The Junior Lawman" in Columbus Sunday and was interviewed in the Legion Wall. Sponsored by American Legion Post 160, fourteen boys from District 7 attended. Delegates from David City and North Bend were named to go to Lincoln the first week in June. Mr and Mrs Larry Bengtson and Delores and Dorothy Anderson of Kearney spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Harry Anderson.

Rainbow Rebekahs Sponsor Two Girls for United Nations Pilgrimage

The Rainbow Rebekah Lodge sponsors Vernalene Eklund of Bradshaw and Teresa Hahn of Stromsburg for the 19th annual Odd Fellows United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth. The two will join an Educational bus tour in New York for a week among over 1,000 participants. Since 1950, 12,997 youths have taken part, with sponsorship by Odd Fellows and Rebekahs across North America.

Salchow Gains Navy Promotion to Aviation Electronics Technician

Carl W. Salchow, son of Mrs. Mary Salchow of Polk, promoted to aviation electronics technician, first class. He serves with fighter squadron 143 at Miramar Naval Base, San Diego, trained on the F-4B Phantom. He earned a bronze star in lieu of a second Navy unit commendation for July–November 1967 actions against North Vietnam. He is slated to deploy aboard the USS Constellation May 23 for Vietnam, his third overseas tour.
