Soil Stewardship Week Observed in Polk County

Soil Stewardship Week will be celebrated May 11 18 with the theme Confronting the Issues. Polk County SWCD and about 3000 districts nationwide sponsor the observance highlighting stewardship of soil water and resources.

Local Family Visits Highlight Melvin Bender and Nelson Homes

Sunday evening guests at the Melvin Bender home included Gerald Brauer and family from Garland and Paul Bender from Clarks. Blanche Nelson hosted Sunday guests Merton Springer and Charles Nelson with families from Grand Island and Central City, and Milan Blase with family. Virgil Bayne from North Platte and Ronny Bayne from Carlsbad Calif. joined Monday dinner at Joe Ehn. Roy Cramer of Osceola also attended with Ed Connelly’s relatives from Broken Bow. Sadie Clark and Ella Rudy were among other guests. Sadie Clark stayed on indefinitely.

Wallace Wedding Reception At Trinity United Church Lincoln

Polk News items report a wedding reception for Mr and Mrs Bill Wallace formerly Lucinda Reetz at Trinity United Church Lincoln with Millie Baack in charge of gifts and Margaret and Jonita Baack as waitresses. Mrs Wallace is a Martin Baack granddaughter. Later guests included the groom’s parents Herbert Wallace. In Stromsburg, Carroll Flodman and Robin Flodman with Merton Flodman visited Lee Hanson’s home for Candy’s first birthday.
