Drop In Personal Property Reduces State Returns

State Tax Commission estimates a drop of about 50 million in personal property tax returns for 1936 across farm precincts if six scattered precincts reflect the statewide trend. Holt, Gosper, Colfax, Pierce, Boone and Wayne precincts show totals of 525 325 versus 661 695 last year due to lower grain and livestock on hand. Commissioner W H Smith notes these are farm precincts and hopes town and city districts offset part of the decline.

Lincoln reports widespread employer payroll identity numbers

Under the social security act Lincoln announces 29114 Nebraska employers applied for identification numbers and 137896 employee accounts set up with 40 new accounts daily. Leo W. Smith notes early old age benefit claims. two filed and several expected. Lump sum payments equal 3 percent of wages earned from January 1 to the start of eligibility at age 65.

Highway bids considered satisfactory by Lincoln engineer

Lincoln State Engineer A C Tilley called contractor bids on about 1 092 million dollars in road work very satisfactory though exact costs are not yet known due to incomplete computations on grouped projects. Bids included a 3 percent reduction and were accepted. Most offers will go to the U S Bureau of Roads for concurrence.
