Legion Party Delights Large Local Gathering

A legion party at the legion rooms Tuesday evening April 19 drew about 130 guests including legion members wives and invited guests. Everett Green led as master of ceremonies while a magician from Genoa provided entertainment. Luncheon featured fancy shrimp cocktails cheese crackers celery Ritz crackers and coffee. Social hour followed as the auxiliary and legion members note redecorating the rooms with new furniture rugs drapes lamps and cooking equipment.

White Rock Hen Wins Polk Egg Prize Displayed at Store

Mrs Walter Fisher brought a White Rock hen egg to Polk on Saturday measuring 9 by 8 inches. The egg, found in the hen's nest, was shown at Pure Food Grocery amid great interest from locals.

A bridal shower for Mrs Jess Rust Jr was hosted by Mrs Lee Morris last Tuesday evening. Guests presented many gifts, played games, and enjoyed refreshments to close the evening.

Missionaries to Speak at Evangelical Free Church Conference

Six missionaries from three continents will speak at a three day conference at the Evangelical Free Church from May 2 to May 4. Speakers include Naomi Skoglund, Harry Anderson, Mabel Sundell, Verla Peterson, Donald Carlson and H G Rodine with updates from China Africa and South America. The church notes ongoing work in China Venezuela Belgium Congo and Japan with 65 missionaries active.

Home Society Elects Officers At Wednesday Meeting

The Home Society met last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Emory Cramer. Officers elected were Mrs. Jake Harding as President, Mrs. Vergil Bush as Vice President, Mrs. Will Kroger as Secretary and Treasurer. A lovely lunch followed the session.

Duane Menssen Dies in Veterans Hospital

Duane G Menssen a World War II veteran died last week at the Veterans hospital in Excelsior Springs Missouri after three years as a patient. He was born April 2 1921 at Arborville and entered the service in July 1942 serving as a machinist overseas. He is survived by his parents two brothers and three sisters with memorial services held at Wall funeral home Hampton and burial in Bradshaw cemetery.

Harold Davis Rites Held in Polk

Funeral services were held in Polk for Harold Davis a Marine KIA May 11 1945 in the Pacific. Born April 10 1919 at Nevada Missouri he left an orphan at 16 and lived with relatives before enlisting. He served in the Marshall Islands Guam operations and Okinawa Ryukyu where he was killed. He received the Bronze Star with combat V and presidental citation. Survived by aunt uncle cousin and other relatives and friends. Local notes list visits and community events plus Polk High School calendar and graduates.

Kathryn Lee born April 10 to Warren Erickson and wife in Minneapolis weighing nine pounds one ounce. Mr. Erickson formerly Vivian Halleck of Polk. Will Stankel and daughter and Clifford Cramer and Clifford Branting attended events in York Grand Island and Clarks.
