A Saturday program at Polk on April 8 offers prizes for children. The event is sponsored by the Polk Commercial Club with details to be announced in next week's paper.
The Fridhem Lutheran Choir of Bordville will present Handel's The Messiah during a Palm Sunday service at the Lutheran Church in Hordville next Sunday at 8:00 PM. About 25 voices from church and community sing under Carl Steelquist with solos by Lucille Benson Omaha Mrs Berg Karl Steurmer and Pastor Berg. The choir previously sang Christmas portions of The Messiah. Public invitation extended.
A mixed shower was held Sunday at the Clarence Driewer home for Miss Irene Wienschusen and Alton Driewer. Guests enjoyed games, then gathered for a blue and white gift table and luncheon before leaving with best wishes for the couple. Mrs. John Driewer hosted another blue and white shower Friday afternoon with games, contests, and lunch served.
Assessors will conduct a detailed spring survey in Polk County to map bindweed infestation and treated areas on every farm and lot. The report will show actual conditions and provide owners of threshing machines or combines with state law requirements and a required sticker from the State Department of Agriculture.
Mrs James McMeekin of Shelby will lead three 4 H clubs this year adding a swine and corn club to her forestry leadership. Betty Leigh McMeekin assists as club leader.

C. E. Johnson celebrated his 80th birthday with an open house at his Osceola area home on Sunday afternoon. A steady stream of visitors called to offer felicitations while refreshments were served.

The T C W club hosted a birthday gathering for Victor Newman at his York area home with numerous families as guests. Self invited lunch was served. Local families visited and shared in Sunday activities and a waffle supper event the prior Thursday.
Harold Schultz visited friends at Marquette on Monday. Norris Alfreds from Doane College Crete stayed with his parents after arriving Sunday. The So, Sew, and Sow Club met at Miss Della Mae Madison's home Friday with ten members present and lunch served at the end.

A Monday birthday party honored Mrs W J Kroger with friends and neighbors at her home. Guests included Mrs Carl Steelquist Mrs Hattie Lindquist Mrs Vergil Bush Mrs Lloyd Kroger Jeanelle Mrs Neil McNaught sons Mrs Ben Peterson and Mrs Ed Madison. A nice lunch followed a pleasant afternoon.
A Saturday afternoon shower at the George Bush home honored Doris Bush on her marriage to Glenn Wieseman. Guests played games and contests and the honoree received many lovely gifts for her new home. Hostesses Mrs. George Bush Mrs. Leroy Schultz and Mrs Harold Hewitt served refreshments.
The Polk Progressive Sorghum Club met at leader Arlo Stevens home to discuss varieties and practical sorghums. The club plans to exhibit ten sorghum varieties at fair time and will meet next at M G W Lindburg home on Thursday evening April 20.
The Union Valley 4-H club, led by Wilmer Johnson and assistant Harold Wilson, was organized on March 39. The club will pursue a mixed sheep and swine project this year, with officers Pres. David Spelts, Vice Pres. Floyd Spelts, Sec. and News Reporter Lyle V. Johnson, and members Wilmer A. Johnson, Harold Wilson, Ray Wilson, Donald Peterson, Ralph Donelson, and Harold Spelts.
Next Tuesday voters in four Polk county towns will choose new town council and school board members. Osceola and Polk calm, but Shelby and Stromsburg face liquor questions for package sales within town limits. Silver Creek also votes on liquor for first time since prohibition ended.

He is son of Dr and Mrs R L Peterson and has attended York College. Hanquist and Ebba visited Elmer Hanquist. Henry and Mrs Sandell called in the Leach home. Clark Snodgrass family Osceola and Ed Johnson with Mable and Aryett Anderson hosted luncheon in the Nelson home. Ella Shenk traveled to York to visit sister Mrs Warren Fightmaster and husband.
