Polk invites children up to grade school age to an Easter Egg Hunt at the local school building at 2 PM. Eggs carry cash value, will be inspected, prizes awarded, and participants should bring a paper sack. Fun for all, with grouped ages and a big day planned.
The Polk election was quiet with low turnout. Village winners: Glenn Hill 65, Albert Sundberg 106, Lloyd Kroger 29, William Wright 54. School winners: Carl Steelquist 89, Ellen Larson 42, W R Whitacre 88, W L Lindburg 41.
Village viewers learn the Light and Water Department posted a 1938 electric revenue of 8176.57 with a net profit of 1892.50 and water revenue of 1536.33 with a net profit of 541.63. Extra expenses included painting the tank and tower at 250.00, reducing gains from an otherwise stronger year.
Mrs. Oscar Anderson received a telegram from Leland Illinois stating Carl Anderson died suddenly of a heart attack while doing his morning chores. Carl and twin brother Eric came from Sweden in 1925 and settled with their sister before moving to Illinois four years ago. Carl, 37, was buried in Sheridan Illinois cemetery as funeral services were held Thursday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Anderson attending.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Recknor near Arborville observed their twenty fifth wedding anniversary on Friday March 31 A relatives gathering at their home followed a midday dinner and cake decorated in lavender and white The guest list includes family from York Aurora Benedict and Arborville with Dr H H Price who officiated their wedding signing a keepsake wedding book Mr and Mrs Fred Brung of Benedict also visited Thursday evening
Sunday features sunrise and Easter worship at multiple churches led by ministers Pengelly Juergensen and Lee. Sunday School at 10 and special revival and cantata events highlighted with a birthday party for Mrs Otis Waalk.

Polk County voting shows Town Board picks Albert Sundberg and Glenn Hill. School Board selections Carl Steelquist and W R Whitacre. Osceola School Board winners Tot H Eklund CA Anderson AA Dreier with votes 67 46 113 and 41 44 85. write ins Guy Ball 59 79 138, Raymond Branting 50, Frank Klein 19. Councilman 1st ward James Gibbons. write in Art Scholz 33. Stromsburg details include Dr Sharpe and Arthur Hultquist for School Board, John Falk and Fred Swanson for Council. Liquor totals show Shelby 280 to 255, and Osceola 182 to 94.
The Production Credit Association at Columbus announces April 15 as the closing date to make 4-H loans. Insurance agreements and notes will be prepared after. So far 44 swine club loans, 20 sheep club loans, and 7 baby beef club loans have been issued.
Chester Underhill a Polk county rural mail carrier found his car missing from his Stroms burg residence during the night. He notified authorities and by Sunday the vehicle was found abandoned near Lexington Nebraska with no clues to the thief.
Mrs Martha Kristina Samuelson born October 4 1852 in Annensta Kronobergs Lan Sweden died at her son Henry Samuelson’s home Osceola Nebraska May 6 1921 at age 86 5 28. She emigrated in 1876 lived on farms near Stromsburg Swede Home and Osceola and belonged to Swede Home Stromsburg and Osceola Lutheran churches. She was survived by two children eight grandchildren and multiple relatives with funeral at St Pauls Lutheran Osceola.
The Pork Women’s Club announces plans to landscape the vacant lot between Hill's Produce and the Farmers' Co-Op. They seek donations of extra trees or shrubs to enhance the town’s appearance and invite community help.
Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Crow and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Peterson fished Sunday near Genoa. Pat observed the fish waiting for lines and pulling them in. The catch was verified by two large sacks holding over fifty fish.
The Polk Women's Club gathered at Mrs. C. R. Peterson's home with co host Mrs. Albert Sundberg. Mrs. Gordon Fino and Mrs. Paul Strand led an Arbia program. Seventeen members and two visitors enjoyed refreshments after the session.
Marlin Bedient a York College junior will deliver the Easter sermon at Arborville on Sunday morning. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Harold Bedient and a Polk high school graduate. Sunday School starts at 10 and church services at 11. You are invited to attend.
A group of neighbors hosted a pleasant surprise birthday gathering at Mrs Oscar Sundberg's home Friday evening. Attendees included Mrs Carl Steelquist, Mr and Mrs Henry Horstman, Dr and Mrs C R Peterson, Mr and Mrs Henry Sandell, Mr and Mrs Albert Sundberg, Mr and Mrs Arnold Isaacson, and Rev and Mrs E E Pengelly. Guests shared refreshments and enjoyed a social time.
The Faithful Workers Club met at Mrs. Clarence Wahlgren's home on March 29 with nineteen members and four visitors. New officers were elected for the coming year: President Mrs. Forrest Berggren, Vice President Mrs. Emery Gram er, Secretary and Correspondent Mrs. Byrd Shrum, Treasurer Mrs. Grant Johnson. Reports from the Federated Woman's Club district convention in Milford March 22-23 were presented by Mrs. S. S. Piper, Mrs. Ester Lackey, and Mrs. Clarence Wahlgren. The group adjourned to meet April 28 at Mrs. Fred Williams' home. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Piper and Mrs. Clay Love.
Ralph Bowman formerly of Osceola Nebraska and Rowena Cook of New York City won roles in a forthcoming CBS Gateway to Hollywood program over KFAB. They each earned 1000 dollars for appearances on another program. Bowman, born in Osceola, lived in Polk and Lincoln, now resides in Santa Barbara where his father works in clothing.
Swede Home Lutheran Church schedules Easter Sunday morning service and an 8 00 p m Sunday School program with an offering. High Prairie Club meets Friday afternoon April 7 with Mrs Clair Willits. Families and friends celebrate Mrs Fred Carlson’s birthday with a lunch served by guests.
The light and water commissioner announced a Village Board decision to revise motor power rates. The new scheme sets a 30 cent minimum per horsepower connected load and 4 cents per kilowatt for the first 200 kilowatts, with reductions for higher usage to reduce transformer losses in town.
A new Nebraska speed law sets daytime limits at 60 miles per hour and 50 miles per hour by night, with a track speed cap of 40. The change tightens enforcement compared with the prior absence of a fixed limit, potentially complicating patrol procedures.
Farmers, vocational agriculture students and 4-H members are invited to a castrating and docking demonstration on lambs at the Ed Hedlund farm near Osceola on Saturday morning April 8 at 10 oclock. W W Derrick extension specialist will conduct the demo. A free lunch at the Rapp Hotel follows at noon funded by the Mid West Wool Marketing Association. In the afternoon Marshall Ross president of the association will discuss the wool situation Elmer Tooker of Silver Creek will give an illustrated talk on sheep equipment and Frank Bard of Osceola will discuss sheep feeding. The program resumes at 1 oclock.
Ed Doll extension specialist will lead contour farming schools in this county on April 14 and 15. Topics include laying out contour lines for pasture furrows and farming across bluff pastures near Stromsburg. The Farm Bureau buys a surveying instrument for two days at twenty five cents to ensure use. Further details to appear next week.
The High Prairie Homemakers 4-H Club organized with Mrs. Clifford Johnston as leader and Mrs. Arthur Ekstrom as assistant. Officers include Betty Johnston president and Rena May Willits vice president with Josephine Swanson as secretary and Eleanor Hinkle as news reporter. The High Prairie Mix and Stir Club, led by Mrs. Art Ekstrom with Johnston as assistant, will share the same girls and cooking project. Officers are Mary Alice Ekstrom president and Betty Johnston vice president with Rosemary Kahler secretary and Eleanor Hinkle news reporter.
At the Agricultural Conservation Association Office word says parity payments are fixed for 1939. The 1939 appropriation of 212 million dollars was made June 21, 1938, with payments according to the 39 plan. As of now 1,491 of 1,845 farms, or 80.8 percent, have signed farm plans and participation may reach 90 percent before corn planting.
