Declamatory Contest Held at Genoa

The Goldenrod Conference Declamatory and One Act Play Festival took place in Genoa on Tuesday March 20. Attending were Sondra and Sheralee Hill Jack Myers Leon Stunkel Marlyce Shostrom Dale Peterson Jeanelle Kroger Frank Ostrander Jim Klingsporn Marilyn Johnson their teacher Miss Lucado and several parents. They were advised to compete in the Speech Contest in Brainard on March 28 and 29 with selected students named. A house warming party for the Sundbergs and children of Stromsburg was hosted by multiple Johnson families on Wednesday evening.

Polk players named to all state teams in two papers

Gaylen Holmes and Walon McNaughty earned all state honors this past week as the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal named their selections. Holmes received honorable mention in both papers while Walden earned honorable mention in the Lincoln Journal and Star.

Luther College A Capella Choir to Give Sacred Concert

The Luther College A Capella Choir of 36 voices from Wahoo Nebraska will perform a sacred concert at Fridheim Lutheran Church in Hordville on Wednesday at 8 PM in April. Directed by Professor Carroll Nygren, the outing aims to spread the Gospel and requests no admission charge, only a free will offering to cover tour costs.

Sixteen members of the Reb ekah lodge spent a pleasant afternoon Friday visiting the Odd Fellows Home in York. They gave Easter baskets to hospital ward patients and performed drills poems and songs before touring the Home. Residents enjoyed the entertainment and the visitors.

Polk Bears Stromsburg In Conference Grade Tourney Final

Polk defeats Stromsburg 29 20 to claim runner up honors in the conference grade school tournament. Denny Cramer hits four three pointers while Bill McNaught scores seven for Polk who finish as second place in the finals. Stromsburg led by Stromberg of Clarks tops the event with 29 tournament points.

Eldon Johnson Named Midget Baseball Coach and Manager

Eldon Newt Johnson was secured as coach and manager of the Midget Baseball team to be organized this summer in Polk. Floyd Lyle and Nick McNaught join Cliff Cramer in the committee to run the program. Fifteen new gray uniforms with blue and white piping and a large P will be worn by the players as play in the Polk County League starts on the last Friday of May.

The Country Woman's Club was entertained Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs Richard Sealey Sr assisted by Mrs Oliv Johnson and Mrs Elwyn Johnson. Prominent Women was the lesson topic given by Mrs Paul Holmes and Mrs Ben Peterson. The Arborville Town Hall Club met on Wednesday March 21 for a square dance with Tom Counter of York calling and music by Mr and Mrs Fred Shockey and Florence.
