All Sports Day at Nebraska U Promises Big Weekend

Nebraskas All Sports Day on April 14 offers a six hour program starting with a track meet against Kansas thin-clads at ten. A varsity alumni football game headlines at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Huskers baseball game vs Buena Vista College. Tickets cost one dollar.

Ramblers Win Two Lose One In Traveler's League Play

Johnnie's Ramblers beat Hank's Five twice and lost once as Lloyd Kroger lifted the bowling trio to three losses for Kroger’s in a week. Floyd Lyle rolled 184 high in the individual game while Harold Green led Ramblers with 158. Kroger topped the Ramblers in their high series with 462.

Polk Legion to Send Frank Ostrander to Cornhusker Boys State

Lemuel R. Wilcox American Legion Post No 160 of Polk announced it will send Frank Ostrander son of Mr and Mrs Frank Ostrander to Cornhusker Boys State June 3 to 9 at the College of Agriculture University of Nebraska Lincoln. Ostrander a Polk High School junior is top in academics leadership citizenship and athletics. He helped Polk High win Goldenrod Conference titles in football and basketball. The 11th year of Cornhusker Boys State, quotas limit attendees with one delegate per town under 5000 population and one per 6000 for larger towns.

Leading Baker Trust Scholar Candidate Visited by Grinnell

Melvern Jim Kingsporn son of Mr and Mrs Ewald Klingsporn Polk has been invited to Grinnell College as a guest Saturday April 7 as one of the leading Baker Trust scholarship candidates. The trust spends 50000 over three years on leadership in small town high schools. Jim is among about 30 selected from over 300 applicants and will undergo tests and interviews with faculty and student leaders.

Polk High Dominates Golden Red Music Festival Crowd

Polk High sent 68 vocalists and instrumentalists to Osceola for the Golden Red Music Festival. The group entered band, girls glee, mixed chorus and one of two boys glee groups, along with Madrigal Singers and a brass sextet. Soloists included Walden McNaught, Don Nyberg, Dean Lindburg, Gaylen Holmes, Virginia Harding, Annette Wilshusen, Maribelle Lyle, Sheralee Hill, Jack Myers, Allen Zierel, and Sondra Hill.

Former Polk Boy in Recital

The Nebraska Wesleyan Department of Music presented Arthur Bates in a senior piano recital Thursday evening. Attending from Polk were Mrs Viola Benson, Mrs Helen Isaacson and Mrs E McNaught. Mr and Mrs Guy Shenk visited Van Bush Tuesday evening. Mr and Mrs Oscar Anderson entertained at dinner Sunday honoring newlyweds Veroy Anderson. Additional guests included Lyman Aker and son, Reuben Anderson, P W Aker and Chas Carlson. Mrs Charles Biber of Hordville died Monday after a long illness. Leroy Anderson visited her father Lyman Aker at Harvard Friday. Ernest Lott and Roy Ruge were dinner guests Thursday at Central City. Gerry Werth of Stromsburg spent the week with his grandparents Henry Werth. Victor Newman of Stromsburg visited the Ovie Johnson home Friday.

Immanuel Lutheran Church led by Pastor C W Long held Sunday School and Bible Study at 10 AM and Divine Worship at 10 30 AM. The column lists numerous local family visits dinners and small gatherings across North Blue area with many names and friendly remembrances. Weather hindered work plans and elderly members received care while community ties were celebrated at family events and anniversaries.

Arborville 4-H Club Holds March Meeting

Arborville Shiners 4-H Club met at the hall hosted by Mr and Mrs Rudolph Friesen. Dairy and Beet sections discussed judging animals while sewing had no activity due to low attendance. Next meeting set for April 25 with Mr and Mrs Ted Janky as hosts. Seven members attended.

Spring Wheat Sowing and Local Moves Highlight March Thirty Two Years Ago

Russel and Ray Woods left for Brule to sow spring wheat. Mrs. Ella McGinnis traveled to Hygiene Colorado to visit relatives. Miss Ruth Glasser assisted John Sjoblom at the county clerk's office and was home from Osceola. Dr J R Leibee joined the local board of health to fill Dr Ayers’s vacancy. Eric Forslund of Stromsburg becomes Farmers Grain Association manager after April 1. C C McCune and S J Bell attended Fred Bell's funeral in Osc eola. Fred died suddenly in Idaho. Arthur Derby of Mitchell visited H M McGuffin's family. Mrs Herman Brown and Albertha left for Paoli Colorado with Mrs Brown’s father Hans Schrader. Mr Brown and two sons have been in Colorado for a month.

Ralph E. Wait Named Lincoln Tel Area Manager

Ralph E. Wait is appointed area manager for The Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company at Osceola with charge of plant and commercial operations in Osceola Stromsburg Polk and Shelby. The move opens a Polk county area office and Wait’s decades in service include roles from installer repairman in 1925 to district clerk in 1934 and Hastings district clerk in 1942. He is a charter member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association Frank H Woods Chapter.

Men’s Chorus of Henderson gave sacred music at the church. Harvey Wochner’s birthday gathering attended by John Wochner, Homer Ramsey, Minnie Wochner, and Lottie Ramsey.
